Ronald Ray Howard, 32, received a lethal injection just after 6 p.m. Thursday in the state’s death chamber in Huntsville.

Howard was sentenced to die for the death of a state trooper.

Howard was 18 and driving with a broken headlight when Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Bill Davidson stopped him.

The 19-year DPS veteran and married father of two was shot in the neck and died three days later.

The shooting happened the night of April 11, 1992 on U.S. Highway 59 in Jackson County, between Edna and Victoria.

This gives me a lot of satisfaction. Knowing that this killer hasn't re-established a life, even a life in prison, gives me a sense that some justice was served. Killers sentenced to life in prison still have a life. This bum got to sit in isolation on death row awaiting the needle. Glad it didn't take forever.

I would like to see a new law proposed. If a person is put on trial and found guilty, and in the penalty phase the jury recommends death, another phase should determine that there was overwealimg evidence of guilt. In that case appeals should be denied and the execution carried out within 90 days. Justice delayed is justice denied.

It might be delayed in Texas but thankfully it is rarely denied.

So far, two more are planned for October, six in November, and one in December. I suspect one more will be added for December.

Howard's lawyers had blamed his actions on the influence of hours and hours of constant "gangsta rap" music with lyrics advocating the death of police officers.

On the Death Row record label no doubt. At least this puke finally got the justice he richly deserved.

Glad it didn't take forever.

Those appeals get expensive! I'd just as soon see them rot in a dark hole eating maggots forever.
