(CBS) Elevated to the post of FBI director by President Clinton in 1993, Louis Freeh now speaks publicly about his terrible relationship with the president.
We were preoccupied in eight years with multiple investigations, Freeh tells 60 Minutes correspondent Mike Wallace this Sunday, Oct. 6, at 7 PM ET/PT.
In his upcoming book, My FBI, Freeh writes, The problem was with Bill Clinton the scandals and the rumored scandals, the incubating ones and the dying ones never ended. Whatever moral compass the president was consulting was leading him in the wrong direction. His closets were full of skeletons just waiting to burst out.
The scandals Freeh mentions include Whitewater, Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers.
The director sought to distance himself from Clinton because of Whitewater, refusing a White House pass that would have enabled him to enter the building without signing in. This irked Clinton. I wanted all my visits to be official, says Freeh. When I sent the pass back with a note, I had no idea it would antagonize the president.
Freeh says the most delicate and unsavory of the investigations was the Lewinsky affair, when the FBI needed to obtain a blood sample from the president to match the DNA on the infamous blue dress.
But we did it
very carefully, very confidentially, Freeh says. During a scheduled dinner, the president excused himself to go to the bathroom. Instead of the restroom, he entered another room where FBI medical technicians were waiting to take a blood sample.

IMHO, like any addict, ( in this case, to lying) Clinton thought he could be "Sunday morning Bill" when President. When the Monica/Jennifer/Paula Jones sexual harrassment/testimony/blue dress/Osama/China/Saudi stuff came up, he was stuck with too many honest people.
Nixon had the same problem.
Let's read Freeh's book and see the situation through the eyes of a man trained in understanding this kind of thing. Freeh can tell us things the rest of us only guess at...
Wow - Dennis Hopper gave $2K to the RNC? What?????
CBS gave a convicted felon (Berger) rebuttal time on 60 minutes according to Drudge. Too bad they wouldn't do that for President Bush when they were peddling fake documents.
I can see that you are no fan of Louis Freeh - nor am I. In fact, I'm angry ... At any time after 1993, Freeh could have spilled the beans about Clinton; saved this nation from a lot of embarrassment; ended much of the criminality of the Clinton Administration; and saved us all from Hillary.
Instead, Freeh comes out now when he can do nothing but sell books and mend his legacy. It sort of reminds me of Robert McNamara coming out 30 years later saying the Vietnam War was a mistake.
Freeh always was a piece of sh_t. That's why Clinton fired his predecessor and installed Freeh in 1993 ... there was a lot of law-breaking to be done and a lot of money to be collected, and Clinton knew Freeh was just the man to look th other way. Now we all know it.
Don't be surprised ... Freeh is doing what Clinton has been doing: trying to rewrite a legacy.
That may bwell be true, but I will believe Freeh, long before I believe Clinton.
Hmmm... Let me see. Do I believe Sandy Berger or Louis Freeh? Sandy, who has a tendency to stuff his pants with top secret Documents or Louis Freeh the one time director of the FBI, hard choice.
All the more reason to read Louis Freehs new book: My FBI : Bringing Down the Mafia, Investigating Bill Clinton, and Fighting the War on Terror.
From Howard Kurtz at the Washington Post:
Under strong pressure from former president Bill Clinton's advisers, CBS's "60 Minutes" has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on tonight's program by former FBI director Louis J. Freeh.
In the statement, Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, challenges Freeh's assertion that Clinton failed to press then-Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year -- six years after the 1998 meeting....
NewsMax has picked up on Sandy Burglars' appearance on 60 Minutes:
Ex-president Bill Clinton has dispatched convicted national security document thief Sandy Berger to rebut bombshell charges from former FBI Director Louis Freeh set to air on CBS's "60 Minutes" tonight...
Rush, Sean and Boortz will have a field day with this story on Monday.
Spot on.
