NEW YORK After the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center (search), then New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (search) was commonly referred to as "Americas Mayor." The latest FOX News poll finds that many Americans remember Giuliani's leadership in a time of crisis and rate him higher than several other potential 2008 presidential contenders as a "strong and decisive leader." In addition to candidate attributes, the new poll also looks at some possible presidential matchups for the next election.
Almost two-thirds of voters (65 percent) think Giuliani is a "strong and decisive leader," and majorities think that characterization also applies to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., (56 percent), Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice (55 percent), President Bush (51 percent) and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. (51 percent). Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and former Vice President Al Gore (search) come in well below the others, with majorities saying the term "strong and decisive leader" does not apply to them.
In pre-election polling, Bush consistently bested Democratic challenger Kerry on the strong leader quality. In this weeks poll, 51 percent say they think Bush is a strong leader and 46 percent say he is not, while 35 percent think the term describes Kerry and 56 percent disagree.
Among Democrats, 76 percent think the term "strong leader" applies to Clinton, 60 percent to Kerry and 45 percent to Gore. Just over half of Democrats think the trait is true for McCain (52 percent) and Giuliani (51 percent), while fewer than one in five think so for Bush (16 percent).

Not on my list.
The "base" sure ain't gonna like this.
He's a strong leader...but a weak Republican...
LOL Of course they won't they hate Rudy! But that's okay I'm sure this will get the full gammet of I hate rudy he's a RINO posts. LOL
Mike Pence in 08!
NO FREAKIN WAY!
1. He didnt go to Harvard or Yale.
2. He doesn't have enough of a paper trail.
3. He is a stealth candidate.
Actually its going to be an interesting race in 2008. I am looking forward to it. I'm not familiar with Pence, but heck if Pence runs and wins the nomination I will vote for him. It looks like from this poll that Hillary is a favorite among Dems - I don't her or her husband near that Oval Office. I don't care if I don't particularly like the Republican candidate I will vote for him.
If it came down to Anna Nicole Smith vs Hillary I'd vote for Smith. Anyone but Hillary.
Was he a 'strong leader' when he chickened out of the race against Hillary, 6 months before the election?
He could "lead" you to his girlfriend's house while his wife sits at home.
He could "lead" you on a raid with his hand-picked JBT's to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens.
He could "lead" you down to the local gay bathhouse.
He could "lead" you down to the closest abortion mill.
Yeah. He's a real "leader" alright.
Did you take a look at the Dems choice for a strong leader?? They chose HILLARY??? ARE THEY NUTS??? If I were a DEM I definitely wouldn't choose Hillary as a president to lead this country - I would go for some other Dem.
Well they forgot two top conservatives that will probably run Sen Allen and SC Gov Sanford. Either would make great VPs.
Never in 1,000,000 years will Giuliani get through the Republican primary. If he should, he'll be dog-meat in the general election. Too much baggage. Too many pictures of him dressed as a woman.
Not really - His wife was busy on Broadway doing the Vagina Monologues and Law and Order.
Can you say President Hillary!?
Thats what you'll have if Guiliani is the Republican nominee...
LOL there is only one picture and the only place it pops up is on Free Republic.
I'd choose Zell Miller and start a Democratic dynasty, but, if they did that, they wouldn't be Democrats...
The final nail goes in the Republican coffin if this leftist authoritarian gains the top post.
