Somewhat reminiscent of how the Feds convinced the MSM that John Doe #2 did not exist.
Don't think the Dad's a liberal - He is Lutheran and outspoken on God an abortion. (per what I can glean from googling)
Condor, You quoted the question I was responding to, not my comment.
Yes indeed. Al Qaeda finished what Ramzi Yousef started. Yousef tried to knock down the WTC in '93 and failed, and Al Qaeda came back eight years later and finished the job. And not only that, but they finished the job with an operation remarkably similar to Yousef's "Project Bojinka". So all these players were definitely cooperating and sharing ideas.
That's a possibility as well. Having failed to get into the stadium, he might have decided to attach the bomb to one of the buses. Or perhaps that was part of the plan all along, based on the existence of at least one other device which was detonated by authorities, and reports of "several" devices.
I have trouble believing that his handlers would detonate him at the bench. If they were watching him the whole time, they saw all of his unsuccessful attempts to get into the stadium. Why would they allow him to go to the bench and blow him up there, away from the stadium, and cause no casualties other than Hinrichs himself? It makes more sense for them to have detonated him while he was still at the stadium. Realizing that he was having trouble getting in, and running out of patience, they would blow him up there in hopes of at least creating panic inside the stadium. Blowing him up at the bench accomplished nothing.
If someone did detonate him at the bench, it makes more sense for it to have been our people who did it.
Try leaving the L off of Joel. Joe Hinrichs Jr.
They may have thought he was going to ditch the backpack and squeal on them
Exactly. With his head down on the bag, he may have been using both hands to try to disengage some type of dead-man switch. Either his watchers could have detonated it, to prevent him from squeeling, or he detonated it himself accidentally while trying to disengage the switch.
PKM stated that security doesn't check backpacks at the beginning of a game, but during halftime. Hinrichs tried to get in before halftime, but during the second quarter, when the game was already in progress. Had he tried to enter with the crowd before the game started, it seems he would have gotten in.
And maybe that was the original plan, to get into the stadium before the game started, but for some reason he got there late. It makes more sense to me for him to have tried to get in with the crowds, instead of later on when he might be the only person trying to enter at a particular gate and consequently would get more individual scrutiny from security.
Or that the plane that went down in Queens a month or so after 9-11 was just a batch of bad bolts. The tail "just fell off". Happens all the time.
I am in Connecticut and was listening to the local new accounts at the time. WCBS was airing multiple credible witnesses claiming that they saw some manner of explosion.
Faster than you can say "John Doe #2", they all clammed up and everyone started reciting the party line.
And just like Boron's statement on Joel, The official explanation came out way too soon for anyone to really know.
I believe that I heard fairly recently that the Canadian Intelligence says that it was, in fact, a shoe bomb.
I think someone on another thread said that some group held a candlelight ceremony of some sort at that site Sunday, and probably left the matches from lighting the candles. Makes sense to me. I think if they had been part of the crime scene, they would have been long gone by Sunday.
If I had been one of his handlers, I simply wouldn't have let him go all the way to that bench if I thought he was getting cold feet. It was far enough away for me to suspect he might be getting cold feet before he got even halfway there, and after seeing him try to get into the stadium three times and fail, I would have been ready to detonate him at any moment. But if I had waited for him to get to the bench, to see what he was up to, and saw him taking out the bomb, I would have realized he was going to try to sneak it in under his clothes, and I would have let him try it and not blown him up.
his legs were intact.. couldn't have been a shoebomb
What is a TATP bomb?
My personal thought is that someone dropped the matches AFTER the bench was replaced. I can't imagine the FBI/investigators leaving that kind of evidence in place.
It doesn't seem it was such a complex bomb that it could have had remote detonation... I believe he was controlling what was going on with the bomb and nobody else... He couldn't get into the stadium with the bomb in its original concealment... so he walked away and got behind George Lynn Cross Hall, out of sight from everybody, and sat down and began his second plan for concealment.. He held it at the wrong angle or something and it went off.
