Jack Carter, the son of former President Carter, said Tuesday he plans to run against John Ensign for the U.S. Senate next year.
Carter, 58, and his wife, Elizabeth, have lived in Las Vegas since 2003, operating the investment consulting firm Carter Global.
"I'm very seriously exploring it," Carter said in an interview Tuesday. "I had not planned to run for office. I have no infrastructure and this is new to me."
Carter said he decided to run in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He said he was offended by the federal government's response to the disaster.
"I'm more concerned than ever with the way that the country is headed," Carter said.

And I miss Billy Beer.
Another freaking Carter!
I'm not sure the country could survive another Carter in politics....
Semper Fi
Wasn't this idiot arrested for smoking the heathen devil weed?
His turn in 'Heartbeeps' was less embarassing and disastrous than his Dad's presidancy.
I didn't know he had a son other than Amy.
Why doesn't Michael Reagan run in California against Feinstein? We could sure use another Reagan (NOT Ron Jr) helping and CA needs a good fight in the senate (they rolled over for Boxer!)
Good grief, just what this country does not need is another Carter in office, just as it does not need any more Kennedy's to screw it up.
I might vote for Mel Carter or Nell Carter or Joe Carter, but certainly not Jack Carter.
I'm positive the good folks of Nevada are really worried about hurricanes!! I sure hope that Jack is more like his Uncle Billy, instead of his idiot father, who damned near ruined our country. At least Billy knew he wasn't the smartest guy in the world, but Jimmy was positive that he was. Miss Lillian always said that Billy was smarter, and boy, was she ever right!! My killer bunnies are smarter than Jimmy.
Anyone know anything about Carter Global?
Like you, I thought Amy was the only son.
Why haven't we heard about Jack before now?
We don't jack about Jack.
Thats what I thought. Where on earth did this son pop up at?
But he wont be elected to the senate. Nevada has a history of running carpetbaggers off in high profile elections. Even though almost evryone moved there from somewhere lse, you need to spend more then two years before running.

He's the one on the right:
