YOU SAID..."You state that as fact, when it nothing but pure and utter conjecture. Its quite possible the head on fight you want would end up as an early grave digger for the GOP and conservatives."

Thats the politics of pessimism, cynicism, and defeat...this is an example of the REAL "doom and gloom" philosophy at work in the republican party today.

Rush over the years has apparently taught nothing to many people in this crowd....you win by fighting for your principles on the field of ideas....IF they are the RIGHT principles and ideas to begin with. In the process you educate, and build consensus. You MUST do this to overcome the bias of the MSM.

Conservatism is the right principle...so it is worth fighting for.

You dont lead by stealth.

No the politics of doom and gloom are in full bloom from the Bush haters and tinfoil conservatives on this thread tonight. Offering a trully speculative and valid counter argument and in a strategic light isnt a doom and gloom, and besides that the Right has been winniong fights lately not freom head on drag it out fights at every turn but by picking the fights carefully. The last election should have taught everybody that.

"You dont lead by stealth."

In politics, you certainly do. Franklin Roosevelt did it for many years. A contrary example: when Franklin's cousin, Theodore Roosevelt made his "heroic" stand with the BullMoose Party, he went down to an ignominimous defeat, pulled the Republican Party down with him, and handed the U.S. to the truly dreadful Woodrow Wilson. Given the democrat solid south at that time, Theodore Roosevelt simply could not win a presidential election as a BullMooser mathematically, but he still bolted the Republican party and made a huge mess. I am a great admirer of TR, actually, but the BullMoose debacle was not exactly his finest hour. He proceeded much more subtly during his presidency despite his (carefully created) press reputatiohn for pugnacity.

The FReeper who quoted Sun Tzu is correct. Don't start battles you stand a very good chance of losing. The RINO Senators will stab Bush in the back just for some kind attention from the libby media; they do it regularly. Plus they don't personally believe in strict construction, anyway and don't really want a conservative justice. Bush cannot count on their votes for SS for an appointment with a conservative papertrail.
