I hope Brownback and Coburn are aggressive in questioning Miers and determining her judicial philosophy.

Brownback could be a great asset in promoting Miers.

If he comes out of the meeting convinced, he will pull in a whole lot of conservatives.

Good strategy.

I wonder if the SWB (Senators with balls) can lead an effort to kill this nomination...we really needed another Scalia, rather than an O'Connor clone who will maintain the status quo. Plus today I heard on MSNBC that she argued for abort rights at one time. wtf is that

I object to a stealth candidate on principle. There's nothing wrong with being a conservative. We can win in the arena of ideas. Let the Left hide who they are and their beliefs. This is where the President missed an opportunity. Conservatism is the mainstream not liberalism and I get sick and tired of us acting like we're the weird fringe and not them.

Looks like another conservative unappeable who ought to go and join moveon.org for doubting the president. Right?

The thing I hate the most about this is....that President Bush has we freepers at each others throats...and the Reps at each others throats...

I just heard Buchanan say that "he" has been working for 12 years to get this opportunity on the SCOTUS, and Bush has blown it....

Don't know what Pat has done, but he is taking it personally like Bush betrayed HIM....and I don't see much commonality between he and Bush...

I wouldn't even post on today's press conference LIVE thread because of so much fighting between freepers...I was afraid I would say the wrong thing...and I don't even know how I feel about Miers, except disappointed and mad at Bush for putting US in this position right now!

Yes, I hope so too. Maybe that will finally quite down some of the knee jerk "Hate Bush because he nominated Meirs" currently being spewed by the "Conservative" establishment. Funny how they know NOTHING about her but have all ready joined the Hysteric Left in full scale bash mode. Interesting Fact about Meirs. If confirmed she would be the 1st SC Justice since 1916 to have clearly stated her support for the 2nd Amendment and the Right to Bear Arms. Funny how none of the "hero's" of the "Conservative Establishment" can claim that distinction.

Brownback compared the nomination of Miers -- Bush's White House counsel -- to that of Supreme Court Justice David Souter. Souter was nominated to the high court by the first President Bush and was believed to be a conservative, but he later turned out to be liberal on the bench.

I see a huge difference between the Souter and Miers nominations. Souter was a virtual stranger to former President Bush. Miers is well-known to the current President Bush. Brownback's comparion is invalid.

A good friend of mine was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor which was judged to be fatal if not removed.  He was faced with the decision of choosing which doctor to perform his lifesaving surgery. He narrowed his choices to:
  1. A very talented brain surgeon who was highly experienced in this type of surgery and would be capable of thinking on his feet should any complications occur.  This surgeon was expensive, had a terrible bedside manner, and some of the nurses griped when they had to work with him. However, he was recognized by everyone in his field as the best brain surgeon around.  or
  2. A very talented pediatrician who had been the first female doctor on staff at the hospital. Most recently, she had performed admirably as an assistant to the administrator of the hospital. The administrator strongly recommended her to my friend explaining that he had known her for years and was confident that she could handle what he judged was a critical but routine procedure.
My friend accepted the recommendation of the confident hospital administrator and had his surgery performed by the pediatrician.  During the surgery, complications arose, the surgery took much longer than expected, and my friend died on the operating table because no experienced surgeons were available to help the pediatrician.

There are any number of senators who wish GWB would have picked someone like Roberts so they wouldn't have to make a decision and take a stand. Senators, in general, are a bunch of self-serving dimwits with huge egos.

I'm hoping that Brownback keeps his mouth shut after meeting with her. The Dems may figure this one out, but hopefully, it'll be too late by then.
