MIERS FOUND CHRIST, TURNED REPUBLICAN

By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.

But she still felt something was missing in her life.

The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the "something" on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.

"She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life," Hecht said. "One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment," to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics. Developing...

Do you think the democrats would not try to put the most liberal judge they could on the supreme court if they had 56 votes in the senate (55+VP)???

If they had 56 votes, they'd nominate George Soros.

---If they had 56 votes, they'd nominate George Soros.---

Yep.

And the republicans would say "we need to get sixty senators!"

When they got sixty, they'd say "we still can't do it, we need seventy senators!"

And it would keep going until every senator was a republican, and we'd probably hear that we need to expand the senate to 3 members per state.

I don't know how long I've been hearing "just wait until we control the white house! Just wait until we control congress! Give us money so we can control Washington!"

And then they get it...and then they decide that they're in the business of spending like drunken sailors and making excuses why they can't do their jobs.

According to an earlier report, Miers was originally a Catholic, lost her faith and drifted away, and later was reborn as an Evangelical. There were no further details.

Got a link?

This article merely mentions that she was a cradle Catholic.

I'm skeptical of her being a "born again" Christian. Maybe she's just kind of flaky?

Considering the church she attended, I reckon she receives the Scriptures as inerrant!

The best line of the day I heard was that President Bush should listen to the people that voted for him, not Harry Reid and Pat Leahy.

So true.

The well has run dry at many places in America after this.

Thanks - (I snuck back in for a few minutes). It is hard to imagine that GW would pick someone who he knows very well and isn't a conservative/originalist type. That is, unless GW is actually just a Skull and Bones globalist. I never can make up my mind about that.

If only he would actually seriously cut spending and stop illegal aliens from tsunami-ing over the border...

Wow...348 posts on this subject. We usually don't get over 300 posts unless its some good ol Catholic bashing (praise the Lord Jesus).

Yesterday, I posted this:

I also want to say that I am on record in this forum as long ago is at least one year posting my view that Bush is not primarily a conservative but first a Christian, then a man of intense loyalties, and finally a conservative when that philosophy does not conflict with the first two character traits. We will have to see whether Bush selected this nominee because she's a Christian, a loyal ally, or a conservative.

Judging from this article, maybe Bush thinks he got all three.

Wrong again. Wisdom comes with experience.

FB--I afraid it is you who are mistaken this time. Wisdom and discernment come first from God. Experience only allows us to better wield it.

"God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore."

1 Kings 4:29

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Proverbs 1:7

"My lord has wisdom like that of an angel of God—he knows everything that happens in the land."

2 Samuel 14:20

"The core" is on the verge of a complete meltdown.

I am a conservative.

I did not say I will support MIers.

I said that I will wait and see.

I will be cool, calm and collected.

I will not act like a reactionary liberal.

We "born again" Christians don't push them. They have the choice to either leap over the edge or leap into the open arms of Jesus.

"My guess is Jesus doesn't care much for our politics. "

Guess again.

Proverbs 8:7-17
13: The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
14: Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
15: By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
16: By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17: I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Proverbs 28:15-16
15: As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.
16: The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

I can list more, but this should show the point that God DOES care about politics.

Want to know WWJV (Who Would Jesus Vote for)? The following is definately qualities Jesus would not want in a candidate.
Proverbs 6:16-19
16: These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18: An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19: A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

God also warns us by example that a ruler that raises taxes will divide a nation.
I Kings 12:1-19
1: And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
2: And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
3: That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,
4: Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
5: And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
6: And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?
7: And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
8: But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:
9: And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
10: And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.
11: And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12: So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
13: And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;
14: And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15: Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16: So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
17: But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18: Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19: So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

And Anne Haisch claims to be from another planet. Doesn't make her claim true.

Of course, the best evidence we can find is watching how a Christian acts...unfortunately that test helps prove Anne is telling the truth.

Come to think of it, I've never been around a "pushy" preacher. I know some VERY "extreme" people...one who's a prophet of the Lord, and although he says things that are very "straight up", people can just WALK AWAY if they want. He won't chase people down. When I was lost and blind, I "hid" in the congregation and was aggravated by what the preacher was saying, but only because it cut me and I knew he was right. My response was fitting to my "condition" at the time. It was a worldly and demonic response.

I can't say that I "feel sorry" for leftists who are angry and aggressive towards Christianity. Some people I know say that I should, but I don't. ...and I'll tell you why.

There is a difference between the "lost" and the leftist extremists who are openly hostile to God's Word. As a matter of fact, Paul writes in his letter to the Church at Rome THREE times that God has "given them up"... One would ask, "If God gives them up, should we give them up too?" I don't know how to answer that question.

But I do know this. Leftists today fit the discription of people that Paul writes about in Romans 1 better than anybody, at any other time. I like the wording from David Stern's "Complete Jewish Bible".

18 What is revealed is God's anger from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people who in their wickedness keep suppressing the truth;
19 because what is known about God is plain to them, since God has made it plain to them.
20 For ever since the creation of the universe his invisible qualities - both his eternal power and his divine nature - have been clearly seen, because they can be understood from what he has made. Therefore, they have no excuse;
21 because, although they know who God is, they do not glorify him as God or thank him. On the contrary, they have become futile in their thinking; and their undiscerning hearts have become darkened.
22 Claiming to be wise, they have become fools!
23 In fact, they have exchanged the glory of the immortal God for mere images, like a mortal human being, or like birds, animals or reptiles!
24 This is why God has given them up to the vileness of their hearts' lusts, to the shameful misuse of each other's bodies.
25 They have exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, by worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator - praised be he for ever. Amen.
26 This is why God has given them up to degrading passions; so that their women exchange natural sexual relations for unnatural;
27 and likewise the men, giving up natural relations with the opposite sex, burn with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with other men and receiving in their own persons the penalty appropriate to their perversion.
28 In other words, since they have not considered God worth knowing, God has given them up to worthless ways of thinking; so that they do improper things.
29 They are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and vice; stuffed with jealousy, murder, quarrelling, dishonesty and ill-will; they are gossips,
30 slanderers, haters of God; they are insolent, arrogant and boastful; they plan evil schemes; they disobey their parents;
31 they are brainless, faithless, heartless and ruthless.
32 They know well enough God's righteous decree that people who do such things deserve to die; yet not only do they keep doing them, but they applaud others who do the same.

Contrast Paul's description of "these" people with the lost sinner, searching for God....blind, but seeking....and there IS a contrast!

If I get the opportunity to testify to these people that Paul describes, I do what I can. But they are just plain dangerous to be around IMHO.

I've talked to a lot of people about taking a stand for Yeshua (Jesus). I know people who are NOT trusting the Lord. But they aren't these leftist extremists, and when we talk about God's truths, I can see fear in their eyes, and they are open, and wanting help. I can't drag them over to the Lord though...they have to walk up to that edge, and (as you have so said) JUMP.

But these leftists are something else. I've never had people get so nasty, so fast at the very mention of God's Word.

I understand fully what you are saying. However, we do not know the hearts of people. Can we judge whether someone is forsaken by God?

Jesus warns us to not cast our pearls before swine. If you approach anyone in the wrong way, you open yourself to ridicule. You can approach anyone with an initial opportunity, but if they reject you and the message of salvation through Jesus, you can move on to the next person.

The parable of the sower talks how some seeds fell on fertile ground, some on rocks and some on hard ground. Hard ground isn't useless, it just takes someone willing to till it until it is once again ready for planting.

I am dealing with a person who is a confessed wiccan. They believe some very wacked stuff. I let them know how I feel without ridicule. It has been a few years tilling, but as their wiccan "friends" walk away during hardships, I remain, presenting the truth of the Word of God. I have seen a little more response to the truth than when we first met. It may not be my witness that brings them to Christ, but it does prepare them for someone later to lead them.

Do you really think everyone you lead to Christ was convinced simply by your witness? Of course not. You just happened to be present at harvest time.
