All this talk about Black seats and female seats has me wondering when it comes time to nominate a Hispanic or Asian, etc., does the quota come from the existing White seats or will they take away a female or Black seat?

I'd just as soon see someone without a law background get on the court, so I have to disagree with Ann here about not having a good enough law school education. I think that's the "Esquire" in Ann talking. I guess there really is something to titles of nobility.

Our spineless worms in the Senate couldn't even get a U.N. Ambassador confirmed, how in the hell would they be able to get Janice Rogers Brown Confirmed?

DO you not think President Bush knows he has pussies backing him up in the Senate?

Ann Coulter should be able to see this, with Chuck Hagel, Arlen Spector, Olympia Snowe, and at least three others side with the RATS over half of the time, we are not going to get a controversial nominee confirmed by these wimps, Janice Rogers Brown would not be where she is if it wasn't for 7 of our spineless worms backing away from the Nuclear Option. I wish Ann would think before she opens her mouth and makes a fool of herself

I'm confused, didn't she also think Robert's was a bad choice.

Souter in Roberts' clothing

It's awful funny that folks fall prostrate on the ground before Coulter normally, but when she doesn't toe the President's line, she's suddenly "underfed" and "crazy" and a "sunshine patriot." Just look at the comments on this thread already.

Too bad honest criticism is not welcome by some folks...

Just damn.

If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

Janice Rogers-Brown would have been a good choice, if it weren't for the fact that she would have been defeated in the Senate.

I think that Bush may have a third appointee, though, and Rogers-Brown might get the nod. More likely, though, an Hispanic.

The last nominee is going to be the most daring because Bush will know that there is no need to hold any of his cards back.

One thing is certain, though... With these charges of cronyism, it's not going to be Gonzales next time.

Coulter has been awfully full of herself lately. And that is why she's sounding like a rambling nut.

Rather ironic for those who chanted "Souter, Souter, Souter" to now fling out the charge of cronyism. After seeing that one of his dad's two biggest mistakes was trusting the recommendations of others for his USSC pick, it just makes sense that W would then instead nominate someone he knows extremely well.

Miers: Second Thoughts

I’ve had a day to reflect on the Miers nomination, and I’ve come to the conclusion that this is an exceedingly good decision. Let’s line up the objections and knock ‘em down.

1. Miers may not be a conservative.

The President has known Miers for a long time, in every sense but the Biblical one. George W. Bush is a conservative who wants to appoint conservative judges. His word on Miers’ ideology is good enough for me.

2. Miers isn’t the best-qualified person.

This matters not a whit. Ideology trumps all. If a mangy yellow dog were the SCOTUS nominee, I’d support it, if it would consistently vote with Scalia-Thomas.

3. Miers is too old.

At first glance, yes. She’s 60; I’d prefer someone 10-20 years younger. But Miers isn’t the typical 60-year-old. She’s very “physical,” and joins the president in some of his more arduous “vacation” activities on the ranch. If she eats her wheaties and continues to stay “physical,” she might frustrate liberals until she’s 90. The fact that she’s unattached is another plus: No family that might cause her to retire early.

4. Democrats, like Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer, seem to like Miers.

So what? Reid’s recommendation of Miers to Bush seems to have been based on senatorial stupidity - she returned his calls promptly; so he supported her for SCOTUS. Having recommended Miers to Bush, Reid will look very weak if his caucus shoots her down; so he’s now stuck shepherding her nomination through the Senate.

COMMENT: Let's not go to the powder room for the Dems, and end up wetting our own powder. Keep it dry until after the hearings have surfaced better information than we have now.

Just sour grapes from someone who has wasted her own legal education so that she sits languishing on the sidelines of the political process, hurling bombastic personal attacks on those who don't fully agree with her extreme positions.

Who gives a crap what Ann Coulter thinks?

Some people have a bias for experienced judges on the Supreme Court. I don't share it.

The problem with a well experienced judge is the judge most likely has, at least once, gone along under the doctrine of stare decisis, in the destruction of an innocent person.

It's probably best for us to have folks on the highest court who have not prticipated in judicial murder.
