Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
I am guessing that if Stevens is against it, I am as well.! LOL
Have they withdrawn that 250 billion Bill??
Or are these just additions?
Lyndsy Graham on Hannity's Radio show just now
He says he thinks Meirs will knock it out of the park at the hearings
I wish I could tell you that they have withdrawn it...but I haven't heard that they have...
SO...I am thinking they are trying to cover their bases here, just in case it fails...but, I wouldn't be surprised to see them ALL pass...
All you have to do is bring up Katrina and how rotten the people in LA were treated, and you have everyone falling all over themselves...even though it has been found that most of the reporting was either exaggerated or false...
And it is gonna cost US in money, and Bush in help with his agenda....sigh
Darn it....I turned Hannity off to soon.....Im glad to hear that and Im looking forward to the hearings.
I wish that Hannity monitored these threads like Tony Snow does...so we could tell him to ask Lindsay what the heck he is doing, having an amendment that could hurt our troops attached with 100 amendments to the defense spending bill...
sigh..Actually, I wish Tony would read these Senate threads...this is where we REALLY need someone to listen to us!!
Graham has been calling for either more hearings into Abu Grahb (sp?) or the release of more photos. I forget which, but whichever one it is, I join you in fearing it will inflame the jihadists and hurt the war on terror and put our soldiers even more at risk.
Howard Dean is on Hardball talking about Miers
Get this .... they are now calling abortion ... Healthcare
He is wanting to have the Army's Field Manuel used as the guideline for handling prisoners and enemy combatants...but, it doesn't cover all of the enemies we have now...since it was written long before al-queda...
and, in order to change it, there would need to be consensus on what IS torture, which would require some type of hearings with the Pentagon...
This was "dreamed up" between McCain, Warner, and Graham....who by the way are all members of the Gang of 14...so compromise is their middle names..
and I think this would compromise our troops overseas, to dredge up old cases that have been adjudicated...and to let our enemies know how far/not far we will go to get information...
If people get killed from rioting on the hint of a Koran being flushed...it is not good right now, with the elections coming up in Iraq, and Ramadan, IMHO...for all of the so-called torture and Gitmo, to be the NUMBER ONE issue in our Senate!!!
Great post with information -- thanks.
Bryds is up but I have no idea what he's saying ..
MUTE ;0)
BTW ... What's this about a book the President mentioned about the Bird Flu??
Is that the one you mentioned the other day?
We need to remember that in the next election cycle...and call any candidate on it...
THAT is a real stretch..
BTW....KKK BYRD IS ACTING LIKE ME THIS AFTERNOON...he is all upset about Warner and Levin attaching that hugh bill, filled with 101 amendments to the defense spending bill, WITHOUT a floor debate...
I cannot believe he is saying what I said to Cornyn and Hutchison's offices today!! Spooky!
Well, I see that they are just stamping them all okay...without debate or voting...
This whole thing is a farce....
Ya'll call or write your HOUSE members and tell them not to pass this through conference...
No, I was talking about an article...
But, I think there is a book written about the Flu epidemic of 1918...that Bush read...
I haven't seen it though...
BTW...Harry Reid is "outraged"...oh, that's right, it was Tommy Daschle that got outraged, right??? LOL
Oh, my....now Harry is saying this is all about Katrina...and they want to vote on having a separate independent commission....???????
Did he stick his foot in it...was that one of those amendments that was going to slip through without debate???
What in the devil are they voting on. Boxer's for it so I know I don't want it.
Oh, Bahbah, I am heart broken...they are voting on whether the attachment that Warner and Levin want to attach to the defense spending bill is GERMANE..
And, I just heard that Sessions voted AYE, with Clinton and Boxer....
He just broke my heart....
I think I heard that Jim Talent voted aye as well. We are both hurting, Tx.
