Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
It is more than that....he knows that this investigation and addition to the Military's Code of Conduct that Warner, MCCain, and Graham want.....will stop down the bill in conference with the HOUSE...
THEY say they are helping the military....but I don't see how that helps...to have this debated right now, in the middle of all of the crap that is going on in Iraq....it is crazy!!!!
And don't you know, it will give the NYTimes the excuse to roll out the pictures and videos from Abu Ghraib...
See, Stevens and Inouye haven't seen these 101 amendments...and Inouye is NOT the type to fight against Levin, usually...
Doesn't sound like Warner is backing off
Stevens says they don't even have a copy of the 2 packages
and they don't know what they are
Stevens doesn't even know what is in those 100 amendments
Here comes MCPain!!!!
WHY oh, WHY am I not surprised that McCain would produce a letter from Colin Powell...
How will this help with public diplomacy crises?????
Putting our military on TRIAL in front of the WORLD?????
GACK!!!!
Thanks ... I got the Dem dude's name wrong
So that IS what it was about. They are trying to sneak in a way to mess with the Military Field Manual. There is no real diplomacy crisis, it is a manufactured crises. If Powell is for it, I'm agin' it. These guys are really going to do some damage with this just so they can preen on the public stage.
Enough is enough...now, Kennedy and Kerry, and Reed want to add money to the DEFENSE SPENDING BILL and supplemental for the wars....
for home heating oil!!!!!
C'mon folks, our Congess is broken, doncha think???
Absolutely. A looming crisis facing America, my foot. I plan to alter my spending and my habits in preparation for the price increases. Or maybe I'll catch bird flu and run a fever so I won't need any heat. Reed should take speaking lessons. He cannot enunciate "vulnerable" and it's not that hard a word. He says "gov'ment." I mean, he just cannot talk.
Yes...this is all about the three I mentioned, wanting to put, yet again, the military on trial for "torture and prisoner abuse" at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib....
and they want to make the Army's manual...but, from what I heard, they can't just do that....because some changes for the type of enemy we have now, would have to be made...and that is a "VOLITILE" subject....what is torture, what isn't....is making an insurgent sleep on the floor, instead of a comfy bed, torture or not...
Is almost, but not quite flushing a Koran considered torture...???
Think about how many people died, just because of a blurb (that was a falsity) in a magazine, suggesting that the military was flushing Korans....and you can see how dangerous that subject could be right now...
AND, we would be letting the enemy KNOW how far/not far we are willing to go....
This is idiotic, and I hate it...
BTW, the ones wanting to attach a bunch of $$$$$$$$$ for the heating oil for old people this winter...are the SAME ones that would be having a HISSY FIT if drilling at ANWR were added to this bill....
Thanks I bailed when Kerry came on and now I have no clue what these "people" are up to.
Gosh, you too??
We were told here in Texas that our TXU Energy is planning on a 25% increase...so I told my husband that he better start thinking "layering" this winter...no heater for us...
And, I may have to turn off C-span to reduce my electric bill....LOL
LOL----I went to the grocery store during Kerry...that man has NOTHING to say that would interest me.
Mary Landrieu is up now
Amendment 1942
I knew this would be about LA!!!!
She is going to make it about everyone, but it is all about her and her pork...oink, oink!
It's a 10 Million Amendment Bill to Northcom so they can research
She says it's only a small 10 Million research project about communication
I think she and Vitter probably saw the shock and awe that their 250 BILLION $$$$$$ bill they wanted passed just for their state...and so now they are probably peeling off bits of it and attaching them on every single spending bill in the whole wide, world....
BTW...if our electric bill is going up drastically, I think the Congresscritters should take an equal amount (in my case, 25%) off of their own spending for any of their projects....see how they like it!!!
