Senate Coverage -- (October '05)
Thomas ^ | 10-04-05 | US Congress

Posted on 10/04/2005 6:36:49 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

I think he is one of the "good ones" like Allen and Sessions, and Cornyn (I think)---I hate that I am having to reconsider my backing of Cornyn, but he is making me uneasy lately.

Cornyn is OK still, he's just in a tough position. He is the Junior Senator from Texas after all.

Yea...and he did vote against the stupid McCain amendment.

Uh-oh, did you hear Coburn say that "it doesn't matter" if the Republicans lose in 2006, or 2008, or 2010...

Yikes...

Oh, yippee....Obama up scolding the Congress and POTUS for not having this Avian Flu thing taken care of...

Never mind, that there hasn't been any cases yet of human to human...this is HIS biggest worry right now.

"Push the Administration to do what is needed"...uh, doesn't the Congress have to do it's work first?, before Bush can sign a bill?

I just turned to the hearing with Condi...just in time to hear Biden say over and over...

"Sec. Rice, I hope you are prepared today to explain your PLAN, we need to hear a PLAN, the American people are resilient people, but they need to hear a (teeth clenched)a PLAN!!!"

BARF-O-RAMA TIME!

Maybe, Allard is up droning on I have to leave for work soon then all the fun will happen! ;) Biden is a moron, even if Condi gave him the plan would he understand it? I have my doubts.

As far as I am concerned, Bush gave his plan a long time ago...we stay as long as necessary, we train the Iraqis to police themselves and build their own army.

The Iraqis set up their own democratically elected Government...

THEN, we will leave when they ask us to, or the job is done.

Sounds like a plan to me...and just right.

BTW..Have a great day at work...when you say missing all of the "fun", I hope that doesn't end up meaning the releasing of any "indictments"...sigh..I am just so worried about that stupid investigation.

Thanks, Tx. Maybe OXEN is boarding up windows, because here comes another one, bigger than the other one. Biden is beyond stupid. By now, anyone who is paying the slightest attention knows there is a plan and what it is. Bush used the "as they stand up, we will stand down" for the less involved employing the KISS principle. Biden understands what's going on, but the DNC talking points are what they are...an parallel universe.

I am cautiously optimistic that no indictments will be sent to the White House. I am only working from 11-4 so I should be home in time for Brit.

CANCELLATION OF LIBERAL RADIO SHARE ON AN UNBALANCED ARMED FORCES NETWORK -- (House of Representatives - October 19, 2005)

[Page: H8925] GPO's PDF

---

(Ms. WATSON asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute.)

Ms. WATSON. Madam Speaker, today our troops abroad have very few choices when they turn on their radios. If they are looking for political talk on the Armed Forces Network, all they get is the conservative spin machine from Rush Limbaugh. That was all supposed to change on Monday when liberal radio talk show host Ed Schultz's show was set to debut.

However, 15 minutes before our soldiers could finally hear a differing opinion, the Pentagon abruptly cancelled the show. Ed Schultz's producer received a call from a Pentagon official informing him that the show would not be debuting on AFN.

Why exactly is the Pentagon keeping our troops from hearing differing opinions? Could it be that the Pentagon is a little embarrassed by the staging of a Presidential teleconference last week? We see the same staffer that informed Schultz of his cancellation was the same woman seen coaching American troops last week in what was supposed to be an unscripted conversation with our troops in Iraq. Schultz was critical of that stage show.

President Bush says our troops are fighting to bring democracy to Iraq. It would be nice if our own troops could exercise some of that freedom.

D@mn that's funny!

You guys have got to check into the Senate---there is a real..."boxing" match going on between Coburn and Bond and Patty Murray...

Coburn is trying to cut "pork projects" from the HUD bill...like art sculpture parks, and such...and he has Sen. BOND..really mad..

Bond keeps saying stuff like "I am sure that Sen. Coburn is a wonderful gynocologist, but he doesn't know what my state, Missouri needs"...ouch!!

Then Coburn comes on and says "I am sorry that the St. Louis Cardinals lost last night..I truly think they are the best baseball team in the league, but I don't think that the rest of the country should pay for pet projects because the senator from Missouri is disappointed"..ouch...(paraphrased..but not much)...

Anyway, Coburn has at least 5 more amendments for different states, so watch all of the Senators from those states come down and take a shot..

OOPS, Sen. Nelson frm Nebraska just came down and said "It looks like the game between Oklahoma and Nebraska is being played today on the Senate floor.."...OUCH!

I am having fun today, boy!
