Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
someone keeps asking for a parliamentary inquiry...
Senate Monday, Oct 17, 2005
2:00 p.m.: Convene and begin a period of morning business.
3:00 p.m.: Begin consideration of H.R. 3058, the Transportation-Treasury Appropriations Bill.
Oh Gee .. I so missed them while they were away
Yeah, I doubt morning business will only be an hour.
They haven't been able to expel their hot air in front of the C-span cameras for a week. I expect some of them are ready to explode.
I, too, wonder how much work will actually be done on the Trans. bill.
I wonder if they will give the "hero" Teddy Kennedy some kind of award for valor...hehe
Reid almost sounded happy that the number killed in Iraq will top 2,000.
I know...and Susan Estrich actually sounded "giddy" one time on Tony's Saturday show on Fox, when the week before had been a "bad week" for our troops...
Boy, did I blast off an e-mail to Tony and Fox....it was a while before she was back.
Oh, lord, he is talking about Searchlight again, gag me...
I bet he spent the whole week writing down very teensy weenie thing he could blast Bush about..
Well...it just got worse...Turbin Durbin...
He was such a "hit" on Fox yesterday...lol
I have to tell you---in case you didn't see it.
On Fox a little while ago there was a press conference in Toledo, Ohio, re: the riots Saturday.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur was up giving a talk...and I wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying...but a reporter was called on, and he asked, "Are you satisfied with the FEDERAL response to this, and do you think they (feds) did enough to PREVENT this)...
She punted...and just said she hasn't "studied it" enough yet.
So...are they seriesly gonna try to throw that on Bush's lap also? puh-leeeze.
OOPs--forgot to say--
I have to go to Drs. appt....please take note of anything "significant"...ok? Thanks!
He is happy about it. There was an historic election in Iraq, which was a victory for the Iraqis, our military, and the President. It is covered on Page A22 of the NYT. If there is a reality they don't like, they just ignore it.
Bump
Right now, Teddy is putting up his raise in minimum wage, yet again...ack.
But, the reason I pinged you guys is this: I just heard on the ABC Radio NEWs a sound bite of Mary Landrieu..
She was complaining about Bush not doing enough for New Orleans...and she said his "lack of attention to Katrina destruction" means that we need a new POTUS...she said the American people should not have to put up with a POTUS who is so uncaring about the poor, and down and out....
Just thought you would like to know that Landrieu is BACK!!! LOL
Sigh, pass the Alka Seltzer!
We are going to need it...but, if Allen and Pence have anything to do with this...NO will get just what they NEED and not one CENT more....(I hope)
From your keyboard to God's ears, enough already! I realize the feds print the money but come on!
Mary Landrieu = :(
LOL
Frist was just closing down the Senate and said that the first vote tomorrow will be at 12:15...an amendment by Sen. Kyl...FREEZING the Cost of Living pay increases for the Senators...
Should be interesting.
BTW...on C-span 2 right now..LIVE is a speech by Sen. Coburn.
