Fortunately this MENSA engineering student was unclear on the concept.
Blowing only yourself up is considered a waste of good explosives by the mass-murdering-animals-on-two-legs killer managers...

It's not the official jihadis that worry me. It's the 'fellow travelers' who decide to make names for themselves.

It's bloody disturbing that no MSM outlets seem to be chasing the Jihadi angle. Thus far,
a search shows over 160 articles on the guy, but only this WND story and two blog postings cover the possibility that he was a wannabe "martyr".

Hagmann, a seasoned investigator, told WND he was informed by multiple reliable law-enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.... Ah, yes. WND was told by Hagmann who was told by "sources" who know what the authorities have found.
Hagmann may be right. But it'll take more than a 4th-hand account to make me believe this report.

Hinrichs was anything other than a disturbed student who acted alone. 1. When someone blows themselves up it is hard to argue that he wasn't "disturbed". Whether the disturbance involved Islamic extremism is the issue.
2. The University has no idea whether he acted alone or not. That will not be known until it is investigated.

TATP is the favorite explosive of Palestinian bombers. It is easily made from materials that a knowledgeable person can buy at the local hardware/food store. It lacks nitrates, thus is more easily slipped past explosive detection systems that are optimized to look for nitrate type compounds.
TATP is shock sensitive and very unstable. While easy to make, it is also easy to spatter yourself. Richard Reid's shoe bomb used a TATP detonator mixed with a more substantial PETN explosive.
