Letter on American Spectator website
American Spectator website ^ | October 3, 2005 | Jackson

President Bush had a chance to change history for the better. Instead, he chose a poorly qualified political pal who contributed to Al Gore's 1988 campaign, spent money on Bentsen, and never served as a judge or legal scholar.

Bush's presidential career will be summed up as: giving the store away in education to please Ten Kennedy; passing an ill-defined and unlimited-cost Medicare prescription benefit; shoring up the sagging career of Senator Specter; paving the path of Hurricane Katrina with gold -- our gold; and wrecking the U.S. Supreme Court just as effectively as daddy Bush.

I trust we can elect a genuine conservative president in 2008, one who will undo the damage of the two Bush administrations. Conservative financial support for more Dukakis clones will be unlikely. -- Gregory L. Jackson, Ph.D. Glendale, Arizona

Hammer, meet nailhead.

Say what you want about GW, but at least face this fact: he is NO conservative.

This is not 'news'..it is one persons opinion to an editor. Might be better to put this on another page.

There is no evidence (yet) that this statement is true.

Unfortunately, there is scant evidence that it's false, either.

You would not know a hammer if someone hit you in the head with it...

Nevermind...apparently they already did.

George Bush is a conservative.

George Bush is a conservative.

Prove it. Has he cut spending? Sealed the borders? You can't just SAY you're a conservative and be one. It's not like AA. Is he more conservative than Kerry or Gore? Hell yes. Does that make him a conservative? Nope. He is judged by his deeds in this arena.

contributed to Al Gore's 1988 campaign,

Just for the record Algore was PRO-LIFE in 1988 and it was a donation to Gore who was running against Ducakus(sp?), who became the DUmmie nominee in the general election.

IMHO letters like this are meant to demoralize Bush's supporters.

It aint working on me.

Taken by itself, that might be a reasonable argument.

But 1988 was the end of eight years of Ronald Reagan. How could anyone with potential conservative leanings live through the Reagan Revolution and come out supporting Al Gore?

Oh really?

"Meanwhile, during Miers long affiliation with the American Bar Association, she submitted a 1999 report to the ABA's house of delegates that included recommendations to develop and establish an International Criminal Court and the enactment of laws and public policy providing that the sexual orientation of adults be no bar to adoption of children."

Moderate liberals can (Gore was center-left in those days), and we don't need one on the SCOTUS.

Charles Pickering, Jeffrey Sutton, Terrence Boyle, Carolyn Kuhl, Miguel Estrada, Timothy Tymkovich, Priscilla Owen, Jay Bybee and David McKeague....

These are just some of the conservative court appointments/nominations made by Bush.

Now...if he isn't a conservative I challenge you to name his liberal court appointments.

Prove it.

Could you explain to us HOW a President cuts spending or raises taxes. I would really like to know.

The burden of proof is on the Administration, and they must prove that Miers is an originalist. That is what the President promised during campaigns, and that is what we all expected.

The way I heard it she was a high powered atty in a big Dallas law firm and a Democrat at that time(conservative Democrat). They were asked to contribute by a large client, which is done all the time. Gore or Ducakus, you pick, LOL.

Who cares anyway?
