Not too much to say. Judge Moore would make a fine Governor, as he would be elected by people who want to spite the liberal federal judge who declared war on him.

That being said, Governor Riley did a stand up job in evacuating Mobile during Hurricane Katrina, handling Mobile's rescue/rebuilding (notice that you don't hear Alabama whining about getting hit by the more harsh East side of Katrina compared to what you hear from NO on the weaker West side of that storm).

He's also brought many, many new businesses into the state (e.g. Hyundai's new SUV plant). He's made one mistake, and that was his proposed tax increase that he has since repudiated. The beauty of that mistake, however, is that this election will give us the opportunity to HAMMER the liberals who applauded him back then...when they start campaigning against him this year.

The Democrat Seigelman is so pro-gun that the NRA actually endorsed him 4 years ago (too bad that he's corrupt as all get-out...likes to "get" his friends out of speeding tickets and into no-bid contracts).

Just keep in mind that the Alabama Governor spot hardly matters much on the global scene...so long as you get a pro-gun and pro-lifer in there...and even then it won't change anyone's world much one way or another (so don't get too worked up over it).

Any of the above 3 could win. The business and efficiency side of me wants Riley to win again, the spite side of me wants Moore, and we'd have a pro-gun Democrat in office if Seigelman won again (with the bonus of being able to catch and parade his corruption around...holding it over the heads of liberals).

So there's no major (direct) downside to any of them winning.

Life is good.

Oh, about the anti-Moore's who talk about trial lawyers giving to him...they give to any "maverick" be he a Libertarian or break-away Republican. In their dreams they'd love to split the GOP down here.

Won't happen. Moore takes their money and laughs at them, as should we all.

Even so, Go Riley!

Thanks for such a nice, detailed reply. I like your Governor Riley too.

The GOP primary was always Riley's to lose. Moore became a threat simply because, Riley tried (and failed) to get a tax increase passed. With the Katrina disaster and the Natalie Halloway tragedy, Riley has improved his ratings. In fact, Moore's entry may help Riley. Business leaders still angry over Riley pro-tax increase plan will decide to support him again when he is put next to an impeached judge. Riley can defeat either Lucy Baxley or Don Singleterm. Moore could only defeat Singleterm.
