Ann Coulter: Miers a 'Complete Mediocrity'
Newsmax ^ | Monday, Oct. 3, 2005

Count Ann Coulter among the conservatives who are unhappy with President Bush’s nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

Asked by NewsMax.com if she considers Miers to be what she had called John Roberts after his nomination - a "tabula rasa” - Coulter, who’s now out with the paperback edition of her best-seller "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must),” said:

"No. She’s something new: a complete mediocrity.”

Ouch.

I think some people aren't considering that Miers has managed the culling process for judicial nominees that has produced the Bush nominations for Luttig, Brown, Roberts, etc. Bush must be convinced that she shares every priority of his in terms of originalism, conservatism, and changing the direction of the judiciary. I'm not saying this point will satisfy any of the critics here, just that it's worth keeping in mind that she and Bush must have had very extensive discussions over the past 4-5 years about these issues, so he knows her views better than anyone.

How devout can Miers be if she is busy throwing money at the DNC, and AL Gore?

Busy?

She gave back in 1988, when she was a conservative Dem in Texas, hasn't given since to Dems, and you say she's BUSY throwing money at the DNC?

What she's been BUSY doing is working very long days assisting the President of the United States. You wouldn't know that kind of busy if it bit you in the tuckus.

What's wrong with skinny blonds?

Nothing, other than not being voluptuous blonds.

At least she's 60 so she won't stay more than 20 years.

Perhaps, and perhaps not. I read that her mother is still alive and over 90.

I would have seriously never suggested Coulter for the pick, but seeing as her background is Constitutional Law, we should have gone with Ann.

Well, there will probably be at least one, and maybe two, more openings during Bush's term. Ann is pretty young so there's still hope. Although dissing his two picks so far isn't going to help her chances any.

Aside from a donation she made 17 years ago exactly what is the basis for people to be so alarmed?

Well, I heard this morning that she's made statements in favor of homosexuals adopting children, and in favor of a World Criminal Court. No confirmation on that yet though.

Let's not forget that Ann is a lawyer, and her columns show (to my mind at least) an acute legal understanding.

She is also a commentator, and while I agree with Bush's choice of Miers, based upon his past appointments and his knowledge of her, many commentators don't like her because she will likely not cause the fight with the dems that they want to see.

You said: She's as qualified as Earl Warren was when Eisenhauer appointed him. And, unfortunately, we all know how Earl Warren turned out.

She's also as qualified as Rehnquist, who had no judicial experience before his appointment.

LOLOLOL! I know a lot of people dream about an Ann Coulter wit on the Supreme Court - but that'll never happen. IMHO, it should always be about judicial temperament and principles.

Ann is a hoot, but I suspect she'll never get a Scotus room until she follws Miers example and gives up her short skirts in exchange for long hours.

So very true. Even then, everything a nominee has ever said or done is apt to be served up to them with a sprig of parsley in confirmation...

Like me, Ann has a big mouth.

Probably wouldn't be much difference between her confirmation before the senators and judgment day with the Lord....every word would be replayed.

Judicial tyrrany began--at the absolute latest--with Wickard vs. Filburn!

Agreed. Clear candidate for the worst decision ever.

Indeed! At the judgment, I wouldn't even be surprised if we were actually "taken there" so we could see the entire scenario from His eyes.

She made partner at a big law firm when women were rarely made partner.

She then went on to RUN that same giant law firm.

What has Ann Coulter done other than run her mouth?

Harriet actually met a payroll.

Because being a Christian isn't the issue. You don't have to be a Christian to be a Conservative. What we want here is an ORIGINALIST. Not some Bible thumper. Get the picture? Someone who understands the history of our nation to who keeps in the tradition of the Constitution. Perhaps like going back to what the 1st Amend. meant before 'Separation of Church and State' was added. By the way, the word is never mentioned once as it only applied to the Federal level. It doesn't take a Christian to understan that. Also a judge who would interpret the 14th Amend. in its context would be refreshing as well.

To say all Conservatives are Christian is absurd.

So, you don't have to know law to be a SC Judge the highest court in the land that gets to interpret the highest law document, the supreme law document? Is that what you're saying? Gimmie a break.

Hey Bush could have nominated his janitor as long as he is a Christian and doesn't support abortion or gay marriage right?
