Count Ann Coulter among the conservatives who are unhappy with President Bushs nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.
Asked by NewsMax.com if she considers Miers to be what she had called John Roberts after his nomination - a "tabula rasa - Coulter, whos now out with the paperback edition of her best-seller "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must), said:
"No. Shes something new: a complete mediocrity.
Ouch.
Why are you disappointed?
would the passage of that bill have outlawed abortion?
You couldn't work for me. I don't hire character assassins. But I'll take your answer for what it's worth, you have no basis to judge her competence.
Seems to be happening to everyone. Of course, we all know Coulter is a sleeper, a plant, a secret Demorat, and probably a troll.
Yes.
Because Bush has bypassed people of John Roberts' caliber for somebody whose most important qualification appears to be her relationship to him. It's a disgrace. This nomination just panders to those who think Bush is an arrogant good ole boy determined to reward his friends rather than do what's right for this country.
I don't care who the hell this woman is, she doesn't have the kind of resume this country needed at this exact time.
Would her performance at the hearings affect your point of view? This is one nomination where it will certainly affect mine.
Sadly, that's the way most women seem to think that's the way men want a woman to look (those in the public eye, anyway). Have to be twigs. Monroe, Mansfield, Loren, Russell, Lollobrigida, etc; wouldn't stand a chance in Hollywood today. They'd be seen as too fat. And those examples are what most men WANT a woman to look like. I have no idea when/why that concept changed, or why it's lasting so long. Personally, I'd take Laura Bush any day over a twig like Julia Roberts (if she were available, of course).
IOW's I think Roberts will be more reticent than Miers to chuck precedent. But that's truly looking at the crystal ball. I have nothing to back it up. Just picture me with a turban and a card to my forehead.
LOL. That's funny.
Ann amuses me. And she is smart. But she's not the smartest or funniest woman I know. So, I have always just assumed Ann was "a guy thing."
You know, come to think of it...I thought it was just us girls who voted/supported people for the shallowest of reasons. I'm going to have to rethink that!
Justice Rehnquist was not a Judge, nor were Earl Warren, or Thurgood Marshall.
Fair enough. She will certainly start off as a cautious one. Later on, she will take on a life of her own. She is probably more likely to chuck Roe than Roberts is my wild guess. I suspect she will go Kennedy on homo issues. I look forward to the hearings. Is she a mental mediocrity or not? If she is, I vote no.
Ann Coulter bashed her and disrespected her. That makes Coulter a troll and Demorat!
Are you trying to argue that Miers is pro choice?
You welcome for the post. However, I am dismayed that you have already made up your mind about Ms. Miers. Like I have been saying all day long, it seems a bit early to be jumping to conclusions about her. Of course you have the right to your own opinion, but I prefer to gather more information before either supporting or not supporting her.
I guess my main concerns about Miers are her age (we needed someone around 50) and the seeming unwillingness of the White House to confront the Senate Judiciary Democrats head-on. It's as if President Bush is afraid to go to war with the likes of Schumer, Biden, and Kennedy over judicial philosophy, so he keeps sending up nominees whose philosophy is unclear.
What makes you think Miers was thinking about abortion when she sent a check to Gore who was running against Dukakis? Over reading the tea leaves can be a character flaw.
Not really. If he nominated a hollywood actor who did fabulous in the hearings, would that make it any better? Many people are fantastic orators - it doesn't change what Bush has done here, and the fact that more qualified people were passed over in favor of one of his loyalists.
I'm a lifelong Republican, and was very happy with the Roberts nomination. I don't think I've ever written a negative post about Bush, in fact.
You may be changing your position once everyone gets a chance to exhale.
She's a bonafide born-again Christian and active in her church for 25+ years.
Just what we wanted.
A genuine Red Stater that President Bush knows as his personal lawyer and confidant.
She publicly has stated that she thinks President Bush is the most intelligent man she's ever seen.
It don't get any better than that folks!
