Ann Coulter: Miers a 'Complete Mediocrity'
Newsmax ^ | Monday, Oct. 3, 2005

Posted on 10/03/2005 3:07:23 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Count Ann Coulter among the conservatives who are unhappy with President Bush’s nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

Asked by NewsMax.com if she considers Miers to be what she had called John Roberts after his nomination - a "tabula rasa” - Coulter, who’s now out with the paperback edition of her best-seller "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must),” said:

"No. She’s something new: a complete mediocrity.”

Ouch.

You have a right to your opinion. If you are saying that Ann is not an incisive commentator, no problem with that (although I think she is). But it seems the argument here is about her looks. You think she got where she is because of her looks, and I think she got where she is because she has cojones. She is sharp, witty, provocative and she doesn't back down to anyone-ever. I like that about Ann, and the fact that she is a babe, well that's frosting on the cake!!! ;-)

I, for one, totally agree that Ann Coulter did not get to where she is today because of her looks. In fact, my husband and sons don't think she's "hot" at all. Yes, she has cojones alright, but she can also be irritating as heck to listen to.

I think this pick is the equivalent of punting on first and goal.

After all, the 1% of the highly qualified academic types who aren't brainwashed libs are radioactive and don't stand a chance of being confirmed, given all the RINOs in the Senate. This might be the only way to get a strong conservative on the Court.

I agree...W's picks say alot about his team in the Senate...

At least she's 60 so she won't stay more than 20 years.

Tell that to Stevens!!!

And I should do that because..... Why?

Any evidence that she is another Scalia?

If so,tell me.

I'm not going to lift a finger to put another Kennedy/Souter/O'Connor on the SCOTUS.

He wants erudite originalists on the appellate courts and country bumpkin liberals on SCOTUS?

Bush nominated a female, white, Vernon Jordan. A rainmaker in and from Texas. I'm sure she's well connected inside the beltway after all this time as well.

This was a political nomination -- not an academic one. She'll get her lesson in reality here shortly.

I'm in good company.

Since when did asking for a genuinely conservative nominee, whose track record was a known quantity, make someone a reactionary?

I don't have too many hard and fast litmus tests that I apply to national Republican candidates.

The only exceptions to this rule are:

1. Immigration, i.e enforcing our clearly demarcated borders. In other words, fulfilling their Constitutional obligation as public officials to protect our national security.

2. The judiciary, i.e. ensuring that this nation's bedrock legal document is scrupulously adhered to and preserved for future generations.

President Bush has failed on both counts.

I'm not "decidedly" skinny anymore because I decided I only wanted to be "deciduously skinny". Is that even a word? If not, who cares. LOL

Is there ANY chance the President has more information than either you or I?

I think she's ugly too. She's got nice hair, that's about it.

In a perfect world, her and Michael Moore would be locked in a room and forced to procreate, only to be eaten by their own offspring.

I don't want a "conservative" activist as a judge any more than a liberal activist

That is a misnomer. Conservatives are by definition, not activist. Ann Coulter is therefore not an activist. And what you confuse as a conservative activist is probably an "originalist". Hence, you are an anti-originalist. You opposed Reagan, too.

With all due respect, someone says that each time the Republicans, namely the President, sells out.

There's a phrase that can be retired "sell out."

You hyenas have worn it out, crying wolf every time Bush does something and accusing him of ignoring his base.

From what I can tell, most of his base is willing to wait before jumping offside.

You nailed it.

Thats how "crazy" this country has become.

If you want the immigration laws enforced (like they were for 190 years) or don't think there is a nonexistent "right to privacy" in the constitution you are a "Right-wing extremist".

FDR/Truman/JFK would be considered "Right-wing extremists" today.

Coulter does have decent credentials. Michigan runs neck-and-neck with UC Berkeley as the most highly regarded state-supported law school in the nation. To be named an editor of the Michigan Law Review is a stupendous academic achievement, and to clerk for an federal appeals court judge is a honor that only goes to the very brightest and most capable students. The only way she could have further burnished her academic credentials would have been to clerk for a SCOTUS justice, as Laura Ingraham did.

Miers' academic credentials are impressive, but rank second tier to Coulter's.

I guess the point is, if Bush was willing to reach down and tap Miers he could just have easily tapped Coulter and gotten an arguably better product. I'm not saying Coulter would have been confirmed. Far from it. But all personality conflicts aside, Coulter appears to be more capable of doing the job.

I wasn't saying you should do anything, so "why?" doesn't matter. I was simply passing on an e-mail from the RNC. Is that a problem?

Are you one of those folks who has already made your mind up about Miers? If I understand your post correctly, you are implying that Miers would be another Kennedy/Souter/O'Connor? Wow, you're really fast at making judgement calls. Please stay off the bench. (just teasing you there).
