OU bomber had huge explosive stash; Mystery remains over suicide outside Sooners game
World Net Daily ^ | 10/3/05

© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com Local and federal agents were carting away what was described as a huge cache of explosives from the apartment of the 21-year-old student who blew himself up outside the stadium where 84,000 watched a Sooners football game.

Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., died in the explosion, according to FBI officials.

Investigators believe Hinrichs detonated a bomb about 8 p.m. Saturday, just 100 yards away from the packed football stadium.

Police were overheard telling residents it would take "several trips and could take up to 24 hours" to remove it all, according to the Daily Oklahoman.

A canister trailer used for detonating or transporting potentially explosive material was being used to haul items away.

Officials said Hinrichs' motive for blowing himself up Saturday near the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium during the second quarter of OU's game against Kansas State remains under investigation.

OU President David Boren said Hinrichs was a student "who had very, serious personal problems that led to this tragic death."

Because of what happened, Boren said, the FBI had taken over the investigation.

Boren said the student had explosives strapped to his body.

Investigators would not say whether they believe Hinrichs intended to go inside the stadium before the detonation happened.

I don't think anyone really thinks it was a prank. However, the speculation over the muslim origins is now getting mindless. There are muslim terrorists, agreed. However, it seems that too many on FR seem to have forgotten that Klebolds and Harris's walk among us as well, and they can be just as deadly.

I'm not 100% convinced there is necessarily a Muslim terrorist connection, but I am convinced there is some kind of terrorist connection that is being covered up (whether Muslim, Ecological, Anti-jock, White Supremacy, I've no idea UNLESS the Muslim "rumors" pan out).

PC needs to go the way of the dinosaur IMHO. Thanks for that info on one gate being opened. The report last night on Channel 4 said all gates were padlocked which made me shudder. Never go down during halftime and can guarantee anyone that I will NEVER go down now. I just hope they have learned a lesson and tighten security at the Gates. I want them to search my bag because then I know they are searching everyone's.

When I heard the person on Channel 4 last night say the FBI is handling the investigation and are tight lipped, I knew there was a lot more to the story then any of us were hearing on the record and what some people are hearing off the record was most likely true.

David Boren's actions in this matter have been just pathetic. It seems obvious that the only thing he cares about is not having the university in a difficult position and not scaring off all the mommies and daddies and football fans (not to mention big donors, I'm sure). If he has to lie through his teeth and obfuscate like crazy, so be it. The truth apparently is not even on this man's radar, far less whether people were in actual danger (which IMO they most definitely were).

Well stated! He should have kept his mouth shut because his credibility is fast going to zero, zip, nada around here.

Coincidently, or not... The Bali Blasts which have been attributed at this point to an Al Qaeda linked group (JL?) went off on the same day at approximately the same time - 8pm. This would match up if the suicide bomb in OU was an early detonation.

BTW - Regarding the "small bomb" used - An article I read last night about the blasts in Bali also talked about the switch to smaller explosives which are easier to smuggle into a crowded area.

Yes and to have it be one of your own American students would be even worse. But if this person or people had been a little savvier and the innocents a little less fortunate, this could have been an unspeakable horror. That sort of transcends Boren's little self-interest thing.

As you say, if he didn't know the facts (and he clearly didn't, two hours after the fact!), he shouldn't have been out there just making up whatever explanation would make it all go away fastest.

Jayna Davis is still in Oklahoma. She left KFOR in Oklahoma City when the New York Times bought the station and shut down the story of a Middle Eastern connection to the Oklahoma City bombing. She wrote her book The Third Terrorist, and in the paperback update talks about all the continuing cover-up after the hardback version was released. Jayna is not at the present time employed as a reporter.

This story is making us in Oklahoma relive the cover-up of 4-19. We still have a cell in Oklahoma City. Our good LOCAL law enforcement referred to it on the news a few years ago as the Iraqi Mafia. One of the people involved in this cell who was mentioned on this news report a few years back lives less than 1/2 mile from my home. (That's real scary). If this incident is tied to the cell in the Oklahoma City area, look for a continued cover-up. The roommate of Hinrichs is evidently of Pakistani origin. PhiKapMom has mentioned that and the Northeast Intelligence Network has also mentioned it on the website.

Chapter 21 of Jayna's book talks about the terrorist roots in Norman and the links to 9-11 that unravel back to April 19, 1995.

I've read Jayna's book and talk about it ALL the time on FR and recommend it to everyone. It's excellent research and she's top notch.

This cover-up infuriates me and I can only imagine how you all feel living so close to it. Try to keep on your elected officials. It's the only way.

The way I see it is one of two possibilities at this point...

A.) The bomb went off too early and they high-tailed it out of there hoping it would be treated as a typical "American" suicide and thus keep their nefarious plans for another day...

B.) Perhaps the ME men running away set off the bomb early when they saw their "mule" was unsuccessful at gaining access to the stadium.

At this point really it's all speculation.

There is a lot unknown about this story, how should they cover it?

Maybe like they covered DeLay?
Maybe like they covered Lisbon?
Maybe like they covered London?
Maybe like they covered Bali?
Maybe like they covered Cindy?
Maybe like they covered Hatfill (anthrax person of interest)
Maybe like they covered the CBS Forgeries
Maybe like they covered Rove "leaking"

I could go on, but you get the point.

The suicide bombings that Israel has endured for 10 years has arrived on American shores, and you don't think it should be covered with a little more vigor?

This sounds like a "work accident." It is entirely possible that he was trying to plant a bomb somewere -- the botany/microbiology building was nearby and would be a logical target for an ELF eco-terrorist.

The fact that he had significant stockpiles of explosives in his apartment make it look less likely that he intended to be a suicide bomber.

He might have thought that security would be diverted to the football game, so he could slip into any building on campus without discovery.
