© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com Local and federal agents were carting away what was described as a huge cache of explosives from the apartment of the 21-year-old student who blew himself up outside the stadium where 84,000 watched a Sooners football game.
Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., died in the explosion, according to FBI officials.
Investigators believe Hinrichs detonated a bomb about 8 p.m. Saturday, just 100 yards away from the packed football stadium.
Police were overheard telling residents it would take "several trips and could take up to 24 hours" to remove it all, according to the Daily Oklahoman.
A canister trailer used for detonating or transporting potentially explosive material was being used to haul items away.
Officials said Hinrichs' motive for blowing himself up Saturday near the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium during the second quarter of OU's game against Kansas State remains under investigation.
OU President David Boren said Hinrichs was a student "who had very, serious personal problems that led to this tragic death."
Because of what happened, Boren said, the FBI had taken over the investigation.
Boren said the student had explosives strapped to his body.
Investigators would not say whether they believe Hinrichs intended to go inside the stadium before the detonation happened.
I have to go in a minute, but your #115 is on target. It really makes me wonder what the heck is going on our sleepy little part of Oklahoma? Do you remember OKCSubmariner? He always said there were a couple of very active terrorist cells in Norman and OKC. I know a lot of people pooh-poohed his posts, but it does make you wonder.
Oh, I definitely agree with that statement... This story was not carried as "headline news" by any means.
We've GOT to keep this story bumped. Making stupid replies to posts like "LOL" was one way we DELIBERATELY kept the Dan Blather Memogate threads bumped.
LOL ;)
Excellent find... Thanks for posting it.
Lurkers - the times they are a changin (for the better). People all over the world join in...
This gets more and more interesting by the hour. FBI officials are saying there is "no reason" to suspect terrorism. I find that VERY hard to believe.
One more bump before I leave for the evening--you're right. This is one story that needs to be out front.
Thank GOD for reporters like the ones you have locally. I was beginning to think there were none left...
That seems the most plausable explanation I've heard so far. No backpacks allowed. Plan B. BOOM.
IT'S CREEPY BEYOND BELIEF THAT A FATHER WOULD SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS A DAY AFTER HIS SON'S "SUICIDE":
~snip~
As a father, Hinrichs said he wants to believe that the explosion was an accidental death, but said the evidence clearly points to suicide.
"He was checking out," Hinrichs said.

Unsourced dynamite ... though intriguing, this needs corroboration. If true, we'll know before the week is out.
Couldn't believe it myself. It has not helped with the new picture, the Pakistani roommate missing, and the media saying they have more to tell but no one will go on the record.
I remember him and I am no longer pooh poohing anything. I am fast turning into a believer.
I agree that this story needs bumped big time. This is not some kid who just blew himself up. When I hear the media has info they cannot release because no one will go on the record, I know we have a major problem. The best news is that they are still digging.
Darn, my son went to Wasson High School....wow........
That picture gives me the creeps. We stood with our initial reaction even though we were made fun of but I had this horrible feeling this was much more than they were saying. That depression story has sunk like a rock on campus.
So in your opinion, on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being satisfied and 10 being ready to dig through Boren's garbage, how frustrated is the media in OKC?
Thought you all might be interested in the article edit that happened this evening regarding the 5 people reported injured early on...
As has been pointed out not only is this NOT "front page news" across the nation, it appears that there may indeed be some sort of "filtering" regarding information published...
I documented the original article, an email I sent, and the subsequent editing on the "big" thread - here is the link to that post;
