For someone to be for Gore in '88 means one thing-- they were against REAGAN!

BTW, how old was Reagan when he became a Republican? You know who convinced him to do it? I read where it was his daughter Maureen.

Incidentally, Maureen was 11 when Reagan supported Eisenhower's campaign in 1952. So I guess it's possible that she convinced him to become conservative, but it seems unlikely.

Well, Bob Beckel on Fox just said dems are "relieved" at Bush's pick.

That seems to be more than those who don't believe she is seem to be hanging their hat on.

It still remains, however, according to Tony Snow, Carl Cameron, and others, that the Rats have stated Miers is on their list of those whom they'd approve. And this says....?

It's elsewhere on the thread. She did. When Gore was pro-life.

To go against Bush.

Right up there with the maturity of "cutting off your nose to spite your face..."

So you maintain that Harry Reid knows her better than Dubya? Harry Reid can't be wrong? HELL, HE'S ALWAYS WRONG!

And Al Gore was pro-life at the time.

I'm less interested in the fact that he was pro-life than I am in the fact that he was a Democrat.

Bush to sitting conservative judges who stand for the Constitution:

"Screw you."

I am so disappointed this morning.

Another stumble like Stevens just had on the steps and GWB will get another pick.

I see that she was the President of two Bar Associations - a radical left organization - and spent five years running a program designed to take advantage of mathematical illiteracy. Other than that her only apparent qualification is being an administration loyalist. Those are the facts, the only ones that are here.

David Frum at NRO:
I worked with Harriet Miers. She's a lovely person: intelligent, honest, capable, loyal, discreet, dedicated ... I could pile on the praise all morning. But nobody would describe her as one of the outstanding lawyers in the United States. And there is no reason at all to believe either that she is a legal conservative or - and more importantly - that she has the spine and steel necessary to resist the pressures that constantly bend the American legal system toward the left.

I am not saying that she is not a legal conservative. I am not saying that she is not steely. I am saying only that there is no good reason to believe either of these things. Not even her closest associates on the job have no good reason to believe either of these things. In other words, we are being asked by this president to take this appointment purely on trust, without any independent reason to support it. And that is not a request conservatives can safely grant.

She's never been married

That's the big warning flag for me. Gotta be something seriously wrong with her.

While I am sure that this is initially disappointing, let's atleast give her a chance.

It would be great to send someone to Committee who we KNOW is pro-life, but if Roe v. Wade is ever to be overturned, it will be done so perhaps in a way that none of us have thought of yet. That's what intrigued me about CJ Roberts: his total command of the justice system and the Constitution.

Let's wait and see what Weapons of Mass Obstruction are leveled against her.

If nothing else, the Dems will tip their hand, Limbaugh will expose them, and Alan Colmes will look silly tonight trying to tar-and-feather Harriet Miers.

(I'll make a deal with you: let's both pray about this and see how we feel afterwards.) ;)

That, of course, is YOUR interpretation of non-facts being thrown around on this forum.
