Most of the conservative callers to C-SPAN seem strongly for Miss Miers. The liberal callers seem outraged that she is just a Bush family "crony." I don't think we know where she really stands.

This operatives sent out to praise are supposed to help. So far they are only making it WORSE.

Yeah I always trust the character of folks who give hundreds of millions of dollars to Arab terrorists.

He chose this woman because he trusts her to follow the Constitution, and because he knows her to be a woman of character.

Okay. I guess we can always hope she is a strict Constitutionalist. Still don't understands why he could not choose someone with whom we know for sure.

Has this been confirmed?

Bush made the formal announcement nearly an hour ago.

And all that alleged strategery will have backfired

It does look like he appointed someone based on friendship, not qualifications, and yes, I am very, very disappointed.

Just as I was when he signed CFR.

You mean the guy hiding out in Pakistan?

Let's see--you hate the President's pick for Supreme Court, and you bring up the "OBL running away in Pakistan" comment. You sound like James Carville or Daily Kos. Maybe this isn't the best site for you.

IOW she got the job BECAUSE of her gender not her qualifications.

That's not true.

She got her job because she's friends with the POTUS and her gender. Not that that sounds any better.

The sky is falling! 20 years ago she donated money to democrats when, as DeLay himself was saying the other day, Texas had a one-party system just like the rest of the South.

We'll see on Bush's nominees, Roberts and Miers, but the chicken littles who "will never vote Republican again" are jumping the gun. Again.

I think Bush had three or four great possible choices that he skipped over. Roberts and Miers wouldn't have been my choices, but I've confidently supported Bush on many issues over the past five years, and I see little reason to stop now. At least he didn't spend any money during the announcement speech!

This is "one" of the "many" last straws.

I couldn't believe it, and I'm still stunned.

...It will be real fun to come back to this thread when she turns out to be in the Scalia/Thomas mold

Really into wishful thinking aren't you? There is no way this woman fits the "Scalia/Thomas mold" that Bush PROMISED us. Nice way for him to stab us in the back though.

I will be voting 3rd party this year for the first time. I switched from Democrat to Republican in the 90's, and now from republican to something else in the 00's.

Gee .. and what 3rd party would that be?

I'd say if we want more we need a third party.

Hamas and Hezbollah will be happy to have your support.

The histrionics and whining on this thread are like children who trip and fall, then start wailing before mommy tells them they didn't skin their knee at all.

The funniest ones are where the kid looks around first to see if anyone saw the fall in order to decide whether or not to start wailing.
