"AP, 2/2/1992, on whether as President she would ask a potential nominee how he or she would rule on abortion:

“Nominees are clearly prohibited from making such a commitment and presidents are prohibited from asking for it,” said Harriet Miers, a Dallas lawyer and president-elect of the State Bar of Texas.

In 1993, after the ABA had voted to adopt a pro-choice stance, the State Bar of Texas, under Miers’ leadership, fought to have the issue put to a vote of the full ABA membership. She said:

“If we were going to take a position on this divisive issue, the members should have been able to vote.”

In favor of democracy on the issue of abortion? Let’s hope she carries that through."

So will you come back when Miers is easily confirmed and votes to overturn Roe

the levels of Governor Taft of Ohio, whose approval level is at 15%.

And falling

They're trying how to figure out how do do negative poll numbers what with dead Democrats and all getting in those polls so often.

Buckeye conservatives love the excitement.

... she spent 5 of the last 10 years running a lottery.

Hmmm. Maybe we should have "Fed-Ball" - the biggest lottery in the country! The proceeds could be used for no child left behind, the drug for seniors program, and enforcement of laws against political contributions.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson just said on FNF that she clerked for Sarah Hughes on Federal Court. What do we know about Sarah Hughes?

Check this out. Souter was perceived to be a strict constructionist AND a conservative.

Also, the Gore who ran in Texas in 1988 was unlike the Gore of the 1990s and 2000s. Gore ran in the Democrat primary as a social conservative. I'm sure he was a total phony in 1988 - but who knew then.

You got that one right. In 1988, Al Gore was pro life. I wonder if the folks on this board know that.

Hutchenson is saying she has gone through the same stuff as OConnor.

Saying she is like Occonor is NOT a positive

She clerked for Sarah Hughes?

Her praises are UNDERwhelming. Seems like Gonzalez lite. If she was giving him good information then she would have helped him push harder on FMA.

This is all part of the grand agenda which remains on track for the process of globalization. I wonder if she thinks that foreign law should be applied when considering US cases? I'll bet she agrees with that doctrine.

Of course...The mystery is not, What is George doing? or Why is he doing what he's doing...The mystery is why do people continue to willfully ignore this???

We are being played like a cheap fiddle...The Fed gov't is the largest employer in the country...Millions upon millions of people depend on the gov't for their livlihood...And more are coming across the border by the thousands, daily...Multi-national corporations control the gov't...

We allowed this to happen and we really believe the President cares what we think...

There is no constitutional requirement for a judge to be a lawyer or even have judicial experience at all. As a professional pick - I wouldn't have chosen her. .... No paper trail and no controversial views...

Agreed, but... no paper trail concerns me. That can cut both ways, could be good or bad.

...she can hardly be worse than Souter.

Hmmmm... that is not a resounding endorsement, LOL! And the last time a Bush tried sleath candidate (Souter) conservatives got burned.

I’d rather the pick be a known conservative and ram it through. The Republicans in the Senate have the numbers, they need to use them. IMHO.

Of course, if she turns out to be a stone cold conservative, i.e. Scalia, I’m taking this all back and saying Bush was brilliant. .

I agree. The Republican party just has to stay united. If not, then the dems will win. The Republicans at their worst are a thousand times better then the dems. I bet DU is loving this.

Those people who are going off the wall about this pick are showing their true selfish colors....sad....
