A University of Oklahoma student died in an explosion Saturday night near a stadium packed with 84,000 people. Although the investigation is not complete, the medical examiner believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., perished in the blast, said Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma .
Hinrichs died about 8 p.m. when an explosive detonated near the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to the universitys Web site, Hinrichs was a junior in the college of engineering.
There were no reports of any other injuries and university officials have said the spectators at the game were in no danger at any time.
Initially, police believed there were two explosives -- the one that detonated and another that didn't -- but a later search found no other device.
University President David Boren said a police bomb squad did detonate an item found at the blast site to ensure that it was not an explosive.
Similar to Debka?
Is there a prize?
OK...thanks for the info.
what would that all prove anyway ?
Yeah, they might be the American Debka. ;-)
Still worth a read, but definately something to take with a grain or two of salt.
You just touch these two wires together and...........ooops!
It would not prove anything. It would support a theory that American college students have committed suicide by bomb in a public area. The theory that is put forward is that such an event could occur, even though this is unprecedented in the USA. Walks like a duck and all that.
That's kind of the feeling I got (granted it was a quick scan). Lets see if it get confirmed somewhere else.
naw ..at best it points to this kid as the 1st documented bomb suicide in the States.
Backwards logic.
The point is that this is *NOT* documented. Early reports, no eyewitness, no suicide note or video published. And you call this documented? Because AP and FOX "said" suicide bombing.
I will stay with my backwards logic, thank you very much.
ok do that then ...I'll wait for some more facts to arrive in the meantime. So far everything points to a lone suicidal sick kid who wanted to make a big final exit . IMHO
You mis read what I posted. You wanted to see a documented case of another suicide in this manner. I said there probably wasn't any ..and so what this case may just be the first...time will tell . The evidence of Islamic materials in his home comes from a very questionable website by the way ..I'll wait on facts as they present themselves before I start saying it was a botched terrorist attack . I think most here feel the same way .
Joel Henry Hinrichs III.
I asked for another American documented case. Self immolation, self drowning, self electrocution, and self bombing are aberrations in our society. Two of the four aforementioned methods are prevalent in other societies. Had this clown eaten a scattergun, nobody would be posting. I believe that we can agree that this is indeed unprecedented on an American campus. Kent State aside.
That sounds like just another form of suicide. You've heard of suicide by cop? That would be suicide by wife.
Lets follow the logic of that, student had mental illness, those having mental illness fit profile of terrorist, therefore all students with mental illness are terrorists. Or dead student suffered from mental illness, terrorists are mentally ill, therefore this student and all other mentally ill students are terrorists. Geez Im glad you enlightened me.
Do you realize that hundreds of thousands of Americans commit suicide each year, many of them students. Are they all terrorists or as you say they fit the profile of a terrorist?
Contrary to your mantra, terrorists don't have to be mentally ill. They just grew up with a vastly different belief system than you and I. Your calling their belief system a mental illness is how the Communists used to describe their dissidents as they housed them in asylums.
As matter of fact yes, I have been. Never took 24 credits, and I took an year to graduate, but part of that was due to taking 12 graduate credits that fifth year, and having 12 AF ROTC credits (were talking semester credits here) that didn't count towards graduation.
Never took 24 semester credits, but I did take 17 or 18 a couple of times. Not that much pressure, and sure never wanted to "end it all".
