Nagin tired of traveling to BR for N.O. briefings (Blanco aide asks delay in hurricane hearings)

Nagin tired of traveling to BR for N.O. briefings
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is tired of traveling to Baton Rouge to talk to his constituents.

Nagin ended his latest weekly briefing on the status of his city Wednesday by saying he no longer wants to meet at the State Capitol.

"If we're going to talk about New Orleans, let's do it in New Orleans," he said.

State Sen. Ed Murray, D-New Orleans, who has been arranging the meetings, said he picked Baton Rouge because so many evacuees from New Orleans are staying here.

Murray said he doesn't plan to move the site of the briefings.

Legislators schedule panel talks on disasters

It's got a long name, but also a big job.

Louisiana lawmakers have scheduled the first meeting of the Joint Steering & Executive Committee on Disaster Planning, Crisis Management, Recovery & Revitalization.

The panel will investigate an array of issues surrounding the storms that recently struck Louisiana.

State Sen. Walter Boasso, a resident of hard-hit St. Bernard Parish, will chair the panel.

It meets at 10 a.m. Monday in House Committee Room 3 at the State Capitol to organize its work and to hear presentations from statewide elected officials.

Lawmakers are expected to meet in a special session, perhaps late this month, to discuss changes in state law and the state budget to cope with the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Blanco aide asks delay in hurricane hearings

Gov. Kathleen Blanco's executive counsel said it nicely, but the message was pretty clear.

Hold down the legislative committee hearings looking into the happenings surrounding Hurricane Katrina.

"We are still in the role of responding," Blanco's chief lawyer, Terry Ryder, told a Senate panel last week. "When you have committee meetings, it pulls people off the front line."

Ryder made the comment as the Senate Local and Municipal Affairs Committee chaired by Sen. Cleo Fields, D-Baton Rouge, met for a third time since Katrina struck.

Yes, we would not want the kool-aid drinking voters to really know what these thugs are really all about, would we?

These two dolts could run a good Mardi Gras or Jambalaya fest but as far as performing in a crisis they're big fat zeros

I've seen a lot of photos of her patching levees, distributing food and water, and manning the pumps, so I know she can't be called away from those duties.

The best place for Nagin to be briefed is in prison... same with Blanco & Compass.

Mayor Nagin:

"Man, I'm tired. This is too much work, all of this travelin' and talkin'. Why can't someone else do it? I jus want to be the Mayor."

The difference between Mayor Giuliani and Mayor Nagin is still astonishing!

Good grief, has there ever been a bigger whiner than this cretin? This comment is right up there with his statement that he was "sick of hearing the helicopters flying over my city"...the ones that were rescuing HIS voters.

I'm thinking it's the longer commute between DFW and BR that is tiring out the poor man.

Actually this might be a good thing. Since he is trying repopulate the city it does seem appropiate. However, the best thing for NOLA is that he prob wants to stay away from the nola delegation and particually the Dem black caucus most from nola which is the real story of corruption there.

At first, I thought this story was a joke.

He's tired of having pre-Katrina planning meetings.

He's tired of hearing the sound of helicopters.

Now he's tired of meeting his constituents.

Boy, this guy tires easily. Why can't he just be tired of
being mayor?

"we are still in the role of responding"

Stuff and nonsense! The dems in that state are sacared snotless that the hearings will bring out far more than they wanted anyone to know. It's so much safer to just keep blaming the tragedy on FEMA and Bush.
