Those in Congress are increasingly inclined to openly disagree with Bush -- and each other.
WASHINGTON In the disciplined world of George W. Bush's presidency, Republicans for years have shunned open criticism of the White House, fearful of a call to the woodshed from an administration that prizes loyalty.

Unified front? It has been my observation that Republicans and conservatives tend to be in a state of continual debate while the liberals are very adept at staying in goosestep with each other.
Liberals are intolerant leftists. They don't want discussion and debate, they just want power.
The press's eulogy for the GOP is a tad too early, and smells like wishful thinking. Saying it is so doesn't make it so.
The GOP is bigger than Bush, bigger than Rove, and bigger than Ronnie Earle. Their power rests in the simple fact that the Democrat Party is just NOT AN OPTION.
One quibble, the demonrats are an option for Satin the Devil!
The Whitehouse did a pretty good job of keeping the Republicans marching in goose-step for things like No Child Left Behind, Medicare Prescription Drugs and CAFTA. Those were very difficult votes for a lot of conservatives in the House who would not have normally supported the Rockefeller Republican agenda.
Personally I am pleased to see some Republicans criticizing the White House. We need to find our way back to Ronald Reagan's flavor or Republicanism.
Indeed, the Dems are not an option, but neither is the de facto one-party system we find ourselves in where Republican leadership is more concerned with "getting along" with the enemy than they are with doing what's right.
"...the demonrats are an option for Satin the Devil!"
Is that some occult stripper? (just kidding)
Right, close the damn borders!
Perhaps all these eulogies in the press will wake up the GOP leadership in both Houses. Time to go "back to basics" for Frist, Blunt, McConnell, Hastert, etc.
This could very well be the window through which our next presidential nominee can make his/her name. Through "crisis" emerges winners and losers.
The LAT is likely indulging in wishful thinking, but the
fact is that amongst thinkers (i.e. not liberals), loyalty
must be earned. It is not assumed.
There are any number of issues on which the Bush Base (TM)
could part company with him, including but not limited to:
- illegal immigration & border security
- profligate spending
- too chummy with treacherous Dems
- signing McCain-Feingold
And most recently:
- Able Danger cover-up
A very good list, thanks!
Obviously not; otherwise, we wouldn't still be debating these things years later. Compare the democrats on the other hand who have so many things on their agenda from abortion to social security to taxes to PBS that are just untouchable.
Saying it is so doesn't make it so.

Ahh, the essence of the lying left. They create thier own reality, and then believe it.

I think I found Satin the Devil.
LOL, she's a hottie!
LOL - too hot to handle!
Well listed, your points have been a thorn in my side for quite some time, now. I also wish the Republicans would stand up for themselves, once in a while. Oh well, dream on.....
ratmedia wishful think.
Isn't our political system designed for debate and compromise within the parties and within the Congress?
Only a liberal would think not being in lockstep, goose stepping to the party line is a bad thing
