ST. LOUIS -- Mark McGwire stands by his no comment.
The St. Louis Cardinals season home run king made his first appearance at Busch Stadium this season on Friday as part of a final-weekend reunion at the 40-year-old ballpark. He said he had no regrets about his often-criticized testimony before Congress in March during steroids hearings, during which he repeatedly said "I'm not here to talk about the past."
"I've moved on from it and I wish the media would," McGwire said. "I've made my statement in Washington, that's my statement, and when I left Washington that's the last time I was ever going to talk about it, and that's really about it."
McGwire told Congress he'd be interested in speaking out against steroid abuse. Now he said he isn't interested in discussing the steroids issue anymore.
"That statement comes from the heart and that's the way it is," McGwire said. "When I left there, I'm never going to talk about it again.
"I'm a very positive person and I just wish everybody else would be positive."
McGwire said he's aware his image has taken a big hit, but didn't appear concerned. He said he missed baseball and would like to get back into the sport "some day."

He's a poster child for the cheating losers that have inhabited the garand old game for at least a decade.
No lie there, you would have tested positive for steroids if there had been testing for it in the 90's.
Big Red, you're about as likely never to hear another question about the juice at a press conference as Pete Rose is never to hear another question about gambling. In other words, you're going to be hearing about it for a long time. What else are they going to ask about? Your effervescent personality? Heh. Your greatest hits? That just leads back to the juice. How your health is doing in retirement? That leads back to the juice. Deal with it, big fella. It ain't going away.
"I'll never talk about steroids again"
Except for the ER doctor asking me what I might have done to cause my HUGE heart to explode.
MLB and reporters knew for a long time there was a steroid issue and kept quiet. I keep harkening back to Lenny "nails" Dyskstra. Over the off season the guy got seriously ripped and I knew it wasn't cuz he was eating his wheaties. I dont' fault bball player for using steroids..you still have to use eye hand coordination to hit a ball and steroids can't help you there.
MAc was juiced and he knows it. He was a stick coming into bball and mushroomed. Same with Bonds etc.
Anyways, go bosox! Kick the yank's butt!
Its a blasted shame that none of these guys can stand up and be a man.
Apparently old Pete Rose was NOT invited to this clambake. I never cease to be amazed at the hypocrisy of those that continue to block Rose's entry into the HOF or his participation in MLBB.
Hey Mac -- Roger Maris wants his *asterisk back.
Come on Baseball, reset the records to the clean jeans guys.
FReepers eating their own again...
Translation: "I cheated, but I'm never going to admit it no matter how many times you ask me."
Steroids don't make you stronger. They enhance the ability of your workouts to make you stronger. You still have to work like hell. The results of your prodigous efforts are enhanced. The need for those efforts is not eliminated or reduced.
The dude helped hurt and molested kids and for that he deserves respect but everything else is trash
Not really cause there are things that cant be tested for
Tell me who were the clean guys? Gaylord Perry?
Does uppers count?
You really believe Hank Aaron didnt pop a few uppers for a day night doubleheader?
Hank Aaron is and was the best non steroid home run guy. His consistency was amazing.
The "dude" did it through a foundation--aka as a tax writeoff. Get real, pal...you didn't really think all those foundations set up by sports figures were out of the goodness of their hearts, did you?
P.T. Barnum once spoke about you.
Maybe he could set up a steroid booth outside the park. Make a few bucks.
