Anti War Nostalgia
by Chris Shugart
Sep 28, 2005
Ever since the mainstream medias canonization of Cindy Sheehan as the patron saint of anti-war activism, leftists have been in a state of rapture over the attention theyve been getting. To hear them tell it, were witnessing a renaissance of left wing idealism not seen since the halcyon days of Viet Nam, Berkeley and Abbie Hoffman. If only they could see themselves as others seem them.
The rest of us saw hordes of angry malcontents, a lot of incoherent screaming, meaningless slogans, and hostile rants aimed at some mythical imperialist power elite. It wasnt so much political activism as it was a romantic recreation of the good old days when angry youths took to the streets to sock it to the man. What struck me was that they still think theyre heavy business. Someone needs to tell these people that the sixties are gone, man.
Anti-war demonstrations have gotten about as relevant as Sha-Na-Na performing at Woodstock: Charming nostalgia, but hardly the advent of the second dawning of the Age of Aquarius. Please. Do we really need to be subjected to old and cranky rhetoric from naïve retro-adolescents and fossilized leftist who failed to grow up?
Here in the real-world present-time era known as the year 2005, perspectives are much different. The public is no longer obligated to view the world in the myopic vision created by a once monopolistic and partisan press. Nowadays groups like International A.N.S.W.E.R and United for Peace and Justice look like Mad Magazine caricatures, except not as funny. Their left wing agenda reads like a satire without the punchline. It gets tiresome in a hurry.
Unfortunately for the left, their narcissism prevents them from gaining any realistic perspective of who they are. Like pampered rock stars, the anti-war folks are captivated by their own hype. Theyre so orgasmically enthralled by the applause lauded on them by their liberal media sycophants, theyve overlooked the fact that they dont have a compelling messagejust the same old whiny invectives weve heard too many times before.
For now, the left may be reveling in their glory, but its a staged tableau manufactured by an accommodating press. Fifteen minutes of fame is still fifteen minutes of fame, even when you dress it up with mainstream media production values.
Good article, Chris. You nail it.
Short, and to the point.
BUMP!
What ever happened to Jane Fonda's bus tour?
Fonda announced awhile ago she was giving it up cause Cindy was doing such a great job, and didn't want to be in conflict.
Oh Casey, you should see me now!
Jefferson Airplane, man .... like, far out, man .......
DUUUDE!
I don't see nothin' wrong with the.........Ahhh what were you saying
This guy provides an excellent description of the DUmmy and moonbat crowd. It even fits the JEB Eddys of the world.
You wouldn't believe the number of people who had no idea who hosted the protest that they marched with. One idiot woman kept asking over and over why we were separated from everyone else. I'm still not sure that she even know what city she was in. The officer next to me couldn't figure out if she was stoned or just incredibly stupid. After a short discussion it was decided that she was probably walking around stoned and stupid.
That can't be real. Can it?
I'm afraid it's real.
"In the 60's protest against the government was new."
In the 1860s there were massive protests against the draft. That is right 1860s.
And so forth.
Leave the left to think that they won 49 states, in 1972, with these tactics.
I am not sure whither to cry that the person who made it is my fellow countryman or rejoice that we are so blessed as to have total morons as our opposition.
