Estimates of the numbers of gays in the priesthood vary from 25 percent to 50 percent. About one-third of the 42,500 U.S. priests are members of religious orders.

This problem would go away if the Catholic Church would allow Priests to marry.

Really? So you think that the answer to homosexuality is to let them marry women?

Hmmmm. Interesting, but I really don't think it works that way.

The sin would begin with something like, "boy. would I like to...". The sin then would continue on as imagination. IOWs, the heart welcomes the "reality" of the imaginaiton. The person avoids, or refuses real engagement, simply to hide what's in the heart.

I already said that the further a person follows temptation, from impulse, to embracing thoughts or fantasy is important when it comes to identifying with a particular sin.

But the fact remains that the Bibles teaches us that temptation itself is NOT SIN.
The Bible says Jesus Christ was tempted, yet WITHOUT sin.

Aw well, we each have our thoughts, just because mine is not in line with yours, does not make me a bad person.

Oh, by the way. I am 66, a resident of Pennsylvania and was raised in the Catholic Church. I have nothing but good to say about Priests. I have known many and they were all good men. I have actually only been in contact with one that gave me the impression of being effeminate. That does not mean he is homosexual.

Shame about the 'frost on your cheese', maybe you should do something about that like lowering the setting of where ever you are keeping it.

Both of these links have a lot of information about the causes of homosexuality and how homosexuals can change. There are actually many thousands (who knows how many) of former homosexuals. The FR article below has a lot of info on the thread as well.

Some have said clergy are considering staging a strike on a Sunday, to show how critical gay priests are to serving the church.

I would doubt they would do this. Nothing like putting a big red X on their foreheads that they might be gay, just when the Pope has sent over a squadron of emissaries to ferret out gays in the seminaries. So, my bet is that a strike will not take place.

"Makes me wonder if they are going into the Priesthood because they truly want to devote their lives to GOD or find it a good place to hide that they are perverts and want easy access to little boys."

Truly, truly thoughtless and offensive and stereotypical.

He's not the first to ask this question. And after all we've seen over the past few years I don't find it all that unreasonable.

There is absolutely NOTHING that says experiencing a homosexual temptation makes one "gay"

If someone wants to have sex with children they are by definition a pedophile. There is something wrong with them before they do anything to act on their desires.

The same goes for homosexuality. The more homosexual temptation a person feels, the more gay they are. If a person is like person 'B' in my prior example, they are extremely gay. This is the definition of gayness that the vast majority of people accept (therefore your statement above is false). I am not saying that people experiencing these feelings are 'sinful'.

All men are born with a sin nature.

Only a small percentage of men want to have sex with other men rather than women. Only a small percentage of men want to have sex with children. These classes of people exist even if you refuse to give them a name. I think almost everyone would agree that the latter group should be kept away from children. As the parent of a son who has considered attending a seminary, I think there are good reasons from keeping the first group away from seminary students.

So you see St. Augustine as a heretic, then? Maybe as a "wolf in sheep's clothing"?

I thought Hombre was being excessive. I was wrong. Sorry, Hombre.

I get most extremely reliable inside information that the number of active homosexuals in the Priesthood is very large. I mean Really Large. Names were named, though I will not share them. You would be deeply shocked.

Your post is interesting. The Scripture you cite can more accurately be seen as exactly contrary to your exegesis.

People's love will grow cold because iniquity shall abound? Iniquity abounds, that is for sure. Iniquity abounding is the cause of the cold hearts, not visa versa.

Great photo:

Chojnaki: 'Thay. Did someone say something about homosexuality being bad??'

Falconspeed: 'Yes, your boss in Rome. Please leave the Church of Christ. Now.' -- This clown is for sure responsible for the loss of many good souls. Pray for Benedict XVI since the battle with these clowns is huge and intense.

Excellent summary. My hypothesis and guess is that the Catholic ordained clergy in the US is probably 40% and focused in seminaries.

I was terribly upset to realize that the parish priest was a real flaming you-know-what. He just had his fun an hour's drive away.

That made me face the fact that the priest two back was also. I liked him. I think he was active with other priests in the diocese.

I have come to believe that "our" ex-bishop is also. There are only two priests in the diocese I am sure are straight. There are a whole bunch of homosexual ones.

Boy, I sure didn't want to see it. Closed my eyes tight shut.

But today, the gay thing is so massively disordered and destructive that even a celibate gay priest, if any, should probably get the boot.

I agree. There has been a massive change in how society deals with the issue of being homosexual. It used to be a hush hush, even when I was a kid in the 60s. Now almost every sexual path you want to discover is open and approved of by at least someone in the media! As for booting out priests who do not advertise themselves as having a sexual orientation would be difficult and I think, not a good idea. A priest who is celebate and gives no indication of his orientation, meaning - he lives a chaste celebate life and is a good priest who does not give scandal to others in what he preaches, teaches or writes is not who should be booted out the door. That would indeed be the classic definition of a "witchhunt."

But, those who practice their sexual orientation or who look the other way to protect their friends or who teach seminarians that unless you experiment with sex before becoming a priest yada..yada..yada... you get the idea, should be disciplined, removed, etc.

Or we can go on to fantasize about it but refuse to act on it. Though this is drawing the line awful close to accepting it in our heart.

Good reply, it's why we as Catholics are suppose to avoid the near occasion of sin. We are all tempted and we can either choose to continue to be tempted and then perhaps act on that temptation or we can slam the door on sin.

I actually believe a man who is a homosexual (but nonpracticing, of course) can be an excellent priest, and that his parishioners respect and love him, because he is so selfless in his service to them and the Lord. (And all the old ladies would never believe that of him anyway.) I have known several priests who qualify.

I agree as I have known at least one priest who qualifies.

So, you think Luther was the devil? We'll after "breaking away" from the Catholic church 25 years ago and becoming a protestant, I have yet to encounter a homosexual problem in the Protestant church. Most of my relatives, who went to Catholic schools all of their lives (and most are no longer Catholic but Protestant)just laugh that people are just figuring it out now what many of the priests were all about. This is no news to them.
