The man has earned our prayers, which will continue as we pray for everyone in this administration.
Where's the best place to watch? Anyone got a link to live video? I mean, it isn't any fun unless we actually get to SEE the convulsions, the exploding heads, and the demonic manifestations.
I pray that he has the wisdom to clarify the first amendment and shut the ACLU up!.
All - I have a question about this whole thing: Why did Bush promote Roberts directly to Chief Justice as opposed to any of the other sitting members of the SC, and how do you suppose they feel about it?
Okay, that was two questions.
Longevity?
who knows.
Something the Left doesn't want to hear, I'm sure.
I'm glad this ordeal is over.
Because Roberts is young, and already had solid Senate support. It was the right play, especially in light of the second nomination which is coming down the pike very soon. As for the other Justices--they understand the politics as well as anyone. Only Scalia was conceivably a Chief, and he has a paper record ten miles long. Roberts has appeared many, many times before the Court, and is arguably the best Supreme Court practitioner of his generation. There will be no problem commanding their respect. In any event, the Chief is only primus inter pares, and has the most influence when he treats the others with the deference that they deserve.
You should have put them (the "echo") in italics with elipses. :-)
My Lutheran parish celebrated the festival of St. Michael and All Angels with a Eucharist this evening.
One of the prayer petitions was:
"You have charged the angels with removing all evildoers from your kingdom and you sit in judgment to determine what is right and just. Bless the police officers, magistrates, and courts of our land, giving them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, that they may perceive the truth and enforce the law impartially as instruments of your divine will; Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer".
The celebrant spontaneously added the name of Chief Justice Roberts at the mention of the courts.
Amen to that. :)
