WASHINGTON - A bizarre day for D.C. Fire & EMS after several dozen phone calls have been received about unexplained odors all across the city.
Spokesman Alan Etter says between midnight and 1 p.m. Wednesday, they have received 36 calls. Firefighters have responded to 11 schools, as well as the fifth and sixth district police stations.
What the odor is and where it's coming from remains a mystery.
Washington Gas is confident that natural gas is not the source of the problem. Company spokesman Tim Sargeant says they're still working on it.
Etter says it's possible that storm drains could be to blame, since the lack of rain has kept them from being flushed.

Orr Elementary School, 2200 Minnesota Ave., SE
Eliot Junior High School, 1830 Constitution Ave., NE
Kenilworth Elementary School, 1300 44th St., NE

Hine Junior High School, 225 8th St., SE
Maury Elementary School, 1250 Constitution Ave., NE
Cooke Elementary School, 2525 17th St., NW
Randle Highlands Elementary School, 1650 30th St., SE
Hamilton School, 1401 Brentwood Pkwy., NE
No doubt the Blue Plains Sewage Treatment Plant is in full olfactory bloom.

If it is warm, and the wind is coming from the east, well, what you are smelling is the waste of the cream of DC society!

Not only do they smell bad, but when they gather in crowds they urinate and crap in the streets and back alleys. They really stink up a city quick.
I gather it hasn't rained yet to clean up that mess.

The odor is from the brakes of Jersey cop cars in Virginia.
The title of the story has a caption "Updated...date/time", that's all, which I take to mean that the original story had been changed/updated as of the specified date/time. No more info as yet.
