As I said, she was confirmed 99-0 for the Ninth Circuit, would be awfully hard for the Dems to justify voting against her for USSC.

Personally, I'd love to have Brown or Owen, but I really don't think the president is willing to go there right now. If I'm wrong, I'll take my crow pan-fried, but I don't see it happening. From what I've seen so far, if he wants to go with a woman, I'd lot rather have Callahan than Miers.

Yes, who knows. She seems loyal only to Bush's family.

WHen schumer asked who they were considering, it would have been funny if they responded:
"Lt. Governor Steele of Maryland. I believe you are intimately familiar with him, right?"

Ditto that, if the choice narrows to those two.

I hope it's Janice Rogers Brown. I'd love to see Jesse and Rev Al out there protesting against her.

I actually remember that pretty well.

I do too, and who remembers anything about Vice-Presidential debates?

That was probably one of the best "gotcha" lines of all time.

JRB would be incredible. But why do you think Owens would be "socking it to them"? She doesn't have a lengthy record on constitutional issues and it seems people are making a lot of assumptions about her based on one abortion parental notification case. I'm not saying you are, but if there are reasons you think she will be a reliable conservative, I'd like to hear them.

I agree with all but the time of day. It will not be 9 pm on a Friday but rather 1 pm or 3 pm with a Rose Garden announcement.

Okay, I almost started a vanity on this, but decided against it. Has anyone noticed that the media keeps talking about how Bush should nominate a moderate for the replacement of O'Connor? Okay, forgetting for a moment that politics are not about winning to maintain the status quo, forgetting that the Dems would never act so generously, I'd like to remind everyone that ROBERTS WAS THE NOMINEE TO REPLACE O'CONNOR!

Yes, he was also nominated for Chief Justice, AFTER being nominated, when Rehnquist passed away, but the fact remains he was nominated to replace O'Connor. We must not let the left and the media spin this into a replacement for O'Connor (though admittedly the sequence of events is easy for them to spin), and therefore give them a springboard to asserting that anything less than a moderate is activism. The replacement of O'Connor was settled this morning. We are replacing Rehnquist now!

Supreme Court justices are loyal to no one. They are independent as per the Founders design.

Yes, it's interesting how this White House sends up trial balloons but never lets its final decisions be known until the time of announcement. The Clinton administration, on the other hand, leaked like a sieve. I guess that's the difference between how adults run things and children run things.
