Bush Reported Near to Nominating Judge (Reported this past Friday)
The New York Times ^ | September 29, 2005 | Elisabeth Bumiller

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 - President Bush is close to naming a successor to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and could announce his choice this week, Republicans close to the White House said Wednesday.

One name that was the source of enormous speculation in Washington legal and political circles was Harriet E. Miers, the White House counsel, who is a leader in the search for Justice O'Connor's successor. Ms. Miers, 60, was the first woman to become a partner at a major Texas law firm and the first woman to be president of the State Bar of Texas. At one point, Ms. Miers was Mr. Bush's personal lawyer.

CORRECT. I loved this part of the article too:

On Wednesday, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic leader, and Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, sent Mr. Bush a letter urging him not to name to the court any of the three judges who were part of the compromise - Judge William J. Pryor Jr. and Judges Owen and Brown.

Yeah, RIGHT. Reid, you're voting against Roberts, someone who is imminently qualified to be judge. So, SHUT UP. Leahy, thank you for voting for Roberts ... but you're only doing so so that it appears you have a bit of credibility on this next nominee when you vote her/him down regardless of how qualified he happens to be. Why you would care about appearing to have some kind of credibility, I don't know ... most of your Democrat co-criminals in the Senate don't care how they look to the People, so long as their constituency (the ACLU, etc. ad nauseum) are happy. In short, Leahy, why don't you just shut up too??

Frankly, Reid and Leahy's letter should factor in heavily in moving Owen or Brown to the very TOP of the list. Bush could flick a coin -- heads, Brown, tails Owen, and be done with it. Hell ... he could bring both out to the Rose Garden and do that in front of the media ... with the two of them standing there!!!!! :) hehehehe

Bring it on, DemoCRAPS. Nuke option time ... and the President is at DEFCON 1.

A 60-year old maybe with no track record and proof of her judicial philosophy? One can only hope this is a diversionary trial ballon.

Laura Bush was pushing for a woman......

Hmmm, I'd pay to see that. Especially if the woman was Kathy Harris!

""There is no back and forth," he said. "It's just, 'Give us some names.' I said to her, 'Look, I'd like to know who the president is considering.' And she didn't say anything.""

Here's the names I'd give him:

Benjamin Dover
Heywood Jablowme
Deeyenda Maddick

That is how he picked Cheney as well.

And she gave money for Gore 2000 campaign.

I'd have to see proof of that ... it would run contrary to everything I've read about her for a long time now.

She was Bush's personal LAWYER, for crying out loud.
