The Netherlands and Belgium were the first countries to give full marriage rights to homosexuals. In the United States some politicians propose civil unions that give homosexual couples the full benefits and responsibilities of marriage. These civil unions differ from marriage only in name.
Meanwhile in the Netherlands polygamy has been legalised in all but name. Last Friday the first civil union of three partners was registered. Victor de Bruijn (46) from Roosendaal married both Bianca (31) and Mirjam (35) in a ceremony before a notary who duly registered their civil union.
I love both Bianca and Mirjam, so I am marrying them both, Victor said. He had previously been married to Bianca. Two and a half years ago they met Mirjam Geven through an internet chatbox. Eight weeks later Mirjam deserted her husband and came to live with Victor and Bianca. After Mirjams divorce the threesome decided to marry.
Victor: A marriage between three persons is not possible in the Netherlands, but a civil union is. We went to the notary in our marriage costume and exchanged rings. We consider this to be just an ordinary marriage.
Asked by journalists to tell the secret of their peculiar relationship, Victor explained that there is no jealousy between them. But this is because Mirjam and Bianca are bisexual. I think that with two heterosexual women it would be more difficult. Victor stressed, however, that he is a one hundred per cent heterosexual and that a fourth person will not be allowed into the marriage. They want to take their marriage obligations seriously: to be honest and open with each other and not philander.
This Christian value of monogamous marriage was widely accepted in Europe's Christendom. Now, that many of them not believe in Christ anylonger, there's no reason not to have more than one spouse if you want. Especially in the face of multiculturalism ideology. Afterall, Islam let a man to have up to four (concurrent) wives.
As JRochelle pointed out upthread animals are not able to give consent. Someone brings this up in every homo-marriage thread and it is an argument that simply does not hold water. Personally I could care less if some want to practice polygamy, it's not for me but then again no one's forcing me into it either. Plenty of historical precedent, much more so than for gay marriage.
I think it is only appropriate that the first post of yours I read since your return is this one and at the same time I'm viewing http://www.hideawayknife.com/main.php in a different window.
Please Freepmail me if your still lurking as I have a lot of catching up to do with you. Horatio Gates pointed out your new website to me.
You beat me to it...
Did he pay them.... One MILLION dollars?
Nice at first.
Until the roof needs fixed.
And the grass needs cut.
And the fence needs painting.
And...
Well Victor, you screwed up!
No 72 virgins for you!
On the other hand, who would want two husbands? Wait, if one of them was a real handyman/fix anything and the other husband was a financial wizard.....I might consider it... LOL ;-)
In a year or so you'll see the first tri-sexual divorce, and ol' Victor will be out on his "netherlands".
Yeah, I know. And I shouldn't try to type while eating dinner either.
wow, well there's an angle I hadn't thought of....can you imagine alimony from TWO? And eventually the child support, and all the other crap that will come out of this, when it's two guys and a female--Ugh, I just don't need to think too much about this.

I would say poligamy was practiced in the OT. It was never "accepted" by God. He never said to take more than one wife. And it should also be noted that those who were in poligamous marriages in the O.T. had all sorts of problems because of it. There isn't one account of a happy family in the poligamy of the O.T.
Islam allows polygamy. Mohammed had several wives all at the same time. One he married when she was 7 or so, and consummated the marriage with when she was 9. So perhaps he does get the 72 year virgins.
Hopefully, its just a 72 year old virgin.

Yeah, you know - I'm thinking two would just about certify you.
*laughing at how many times you'd be saying "WHO LEFT THE D$#@ seat up THIS time?"
poligamy = polygamy
Ah, but mine did (being a guy, and all).
Exactly. I also have a problem with something being illegal when it is formalised by the state (ie applying for recognition of their union) but fine if done informally (ie living together as a trio).
That said, I don't think groups opposed to such unions should have to recognise them but that only reawakens the old argument of whether the state should have any part in recgnising marriage or not. If it does we're always going to have someone 'pushing the envelope'...
Mind you, my real beef with polygamy is that nowadays (This case excepted) it always seems to involve young kids below the age of condsent being pressured into rleationships with sleazy old men with the kids own families helping to apply the pressure.
I could care less what consenting adults do (As long as it's not in my face) but some calls of polygamy are no more than a mask for abuse.
