Great job on this, backhoe.
We have been watching this stuff for a long, long time and we well know how it works.
bump. thanks for the info backhoe
What a travesty this is. This is simply a continuation of the democrat party's effort to nullify the last election, and a pattern whereby the democrat party seeks to nullify any election that they lose.
To begin with, this notion that Tom Delay is "skirting the law" is hysterical since ALL politicians to some extent skirt the law. Money has been and will always be a part of politics. Politicians, like say, Ronnie Earle, use these schemes to fund their campaigns. As a matter of fact politicians like, say, Ronnie Earle, have used the scheme (the one alleged to be a crime in the DeLay indictment) to fund campaigns in Texas.
I know what will be said. "We should not accept "Clintonian" skirting of the law from our politicians." I agree with that noble notion, hell, who wouldn't? But, does that mean we start with the Republicans. Hey, lets just clean out those corrupt Republican politicians and then we will trust that the good and gracious democrat party to go next, to clean up their own acts and resign their leadership positions? WAKE UP!!!! The dems never resign and never admit doing anything wrong. As we speak there are many democrat congressman (Mr. Jefferson from Louisiana are you there?) under investigation for actual wrongdoing, i.e. crimes. But, do we hear about them? No, we don't. To the democrats, cleaning up politics is a one way street and just proves that all this DeLay crap is just the latest democrat tactic to do by trick what they can't do at the polls.
The democrats want to talk Ethics!!!! The democrats are blocking the House ethics panel from meeting. Oh gee, wonder fyucking why? Could it be because first up on the ethics panel agenda is to find out why a democrat congressman was taping private phone conversations of the Republican leadership? Could it be so that the dems can just raise baseless charges (its the seriousness of the charges afterall) without affording the accused due process? Naaaah, not our good ethical friends on the other side of the aisle.
Secondly, the Republicans better bring the guns to this fight and soon. The democrats have now indicated that they will simply not accept any election results that don't put them in power. By hook or crook they are determined to regain power. This indictment is pure BS and they know it. This is the latest tactic by the dems, namely, to get local, elected prosecutors to drum up whatever BS charges they can and indict. Oh, and it is not limited to politicians. You think that prosecutor in Florida isn't drumming up shyt against Rush Limbaugh? What about Rove? Come on, anyone see a pattern.
If there is one thing that watching the democrats have taught me is that if you want to know what they are up to, look at what they accuse others of doing? The Republicans were caught flatfooted here because they figured the dems would never throw stones when they live in glass houses. Well Republicans, they are throwing stones. Time to start throwing the same tactics back at the democrats, who, I suspect, have much more to hide.
Moreover, if they want to raise hell, see them hell and raise them. I am still waiting to see the dems plan for saving social security, fighting the war on terror, reforming the tax code, saving/reforming medicare, education, etc. etc. Oh, thats right, they have NO fyucking plan. Their plan is just constant campaigning and constant complaining in a constant pursuit of power. Fine, then lets have the debates, lets have them come out and say what they really want, socialism.
Third, I have seen the complaints here on FR about how the Republicans are: 1) spending like druken sailors, 2)failing to protect our borders, and 3)not exercising their majority. While those are all legitimate concerns, in my opinion, complaining of such things is putting the cart before the horse.
The first priority of the Republican party should be the utter destruction of the democrat party. The democrat party is not longer an opposition party. An opposition party presents ideas and debates those ideas. The democrat party is dedicated to nothing more than forcing socialism upon us, period. The democrat party believes it is their manifest destiny to rule, whether we elect them or not. Well, we don't elect them to rule and this is precisely why the democrat party must use non-democratic means to advance its agenda. This is why the democrat party is increasingly viewing democracy as its enemy, not its friend (remember, it was the exit polling (conducted by the MSM) that should have counted, not the actual votes). This is why you are seeing the tactics employed by the dems now to undo what was done at the polls.
Many of FR say "Fine, lets lose the majority and send a message to our leaders. Then we can campaign for true conservatives." Again I say putting the cart before the horse. You can bank on this. If the dems get their power back, they will NEVER relinquish it again. They have seen the model in Canada and Germany whereby a leftist government can retain power by nefarious means. For example, the first thing they will do is impeach Bush. The next thing they will do is seek to silence the blogosphere (unless they agree with it). They will seek to reinstate the fairness standard and otherwise exclude any voices but the MSM. In short, they will seek to silence or marginalize any voices of opposition. They have already tried to do so, don't think that they won't once they are in power.
Finally, even if the dems do lose an election, does anyone actually think that they will allow that result to stand?!? Picture John Conyers in the majority during the last election. That fiasco of an "Ohio Vote Fraud" hearing he held would be real and the results of the election overturned. Think Al Gore every election, everytime a democrat loses, i.e. democrat wins=good, democrat loses=fraud. In short, Republicans are outlawed.
I put nothing past a party that, for political gain, is rooting for the terrorists, is rooting for Iraq to turn into another Vietnam, and largely thinks the United States got what it deserved on 9/11. I put NOTHING past such a party where our own soldiers are compared to the Gestapo. Does anyone here?
Thanks for stopping by!

Ronnie Earle is the most corrupt politician in Texas (I don't know about other states, but District Attorneys are politicians here) and is well-known for using his political agenda to prosecute people. Not only did he indict Kay Bailey Hutchison within days after she won her Senate seat (the first such seat occupied by a Republican since 1875), but he also "investigated" or indicted Democrats who managed to get on his wrong side, like Gib Lewis, who once ran against Earle for office, and Bob Bullock, the Democrat political mentor of President Bush. In the Hutchison case, she demanded a jury trial and as soon as the jury was seated, Earle dropped the case. If his case was so weak that we would not even present it, then why did he indict Hutchison in the first place? Earle is also a close friend of Robin Rather -- the daughter of Dan Rather. She has sponsored several fund-raisers for Earle and has at least once (in 2000) contributed the maximum amount allowed by law to Earle's campaign. Ben Barnes, the Democratic lobbyist and former lieutenant governor of Texas, is a also a running buddy of Earle's and joined Robin Rather in sponsoring an Earle fundraiser. Did I mention that Ben Barnes was featured prominently in the 60 Minutes report that triggered Dan Rather's Memogate escapade?
At a recent Democrat fundraiser, Earle compared Tom DeLay to a bully. Such a thing is not only in bad taste, but is probably also illegal, since the ABA's Canon of Ethics prohibits extra-judicial statements concerning "the character...of the accused" or "any opinion as to the guilt or innocence of the accused, the evidence, or the merits of the case." Apparently, Earle is using his power to prosecute DeLay in the media before he tries to prosecute him in court. The potential for contaminating the jury pool is mind-boggling. It would be nice to bring down Ronnie Earle on ethics charges. Such a thing could happen -- Tom DeLay is a tough fighter and Ronnie Earle just may have met his match.
Captain's Quarters writes that "NRO's Byron York notes that Earle has found others in violation of the law along the way, notably large corporations who have donated to DeLay campaign, forbidden by Texas law. Does he prosecute the corporations? Apparently only if they don't comply with the Ronnie Earle Clemency Program, which consists of demands for huge cash contributions to his own pet causes." This sounds an awful lot like Jesse Jackson, who accused Anheuser-Busch of racism, but relented when they gave one of his sons a lucrative beer distributorship in Chicago.
Now, National Review Online is reporting that Ronnie Earle has given a film crew permission to make a motion picture about his work on the DeLay case. This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "show trial."
The resulting film is called The Big Buy, made by Texas filmmakers Mark Birnbaum and Jim Schermbeck. "Raymond Chandler meets Willie Nelson on the corner of Wall Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in The Big Buy, a Texas noir political detective story that chronicles what some are calling a 'bloodless coup with corporate cash,'" reads a description of the picture on Birnbaum's website, markbirnbaum.com. The film, according to the description, "follows maverick Austin DA Ronnie Earle's investigation into what really happened when corporate money joined forces with relentless political ambitions to help swing the pivotal 2002 Texas elections, cementing Republican control from Austin to Washington DC."
"We approached him [Earle], and he offered us extraordinary access to him and, to an extent, to his staff," Birnbaum told National Review Online Thursday. "We've been shooting for about two years."
Birnbaum and Schermbeck showed a work-in-progress version of The Big Buy last month at the Dallas Video Festival. At the moment, they do not have a deal for the film to be shown anywhere else. Their last film, Larry v. Lockney, was shown on PBS, and they hope that perhaps a similar arrangement might be made for the new picture. Whoever ends up showing it, the film has so far been funded entirely by its makers. "We tried really hard to get it funded," Birnbaum says, "but we didn't get any takers."
It sounds like a good idea to keep the rule requiring House leaders to step down from their posts when indicted, but when prosecutorial powers are abused by two-bit partisan hacks like Ronnie Earle, one has to wonder whether we should allow single individuals to wield so much power as to change the face of government. One can imagine a situation whereby the Democrats find a dozen Ronnie Earle's throughout the country and wipe out the entire Republican leadership and damage their re-election chances by issuing bogus indictments that stand no chance in court.
There's a lot of of dirty politics and -- dare I say conspiracy? -- going on down here in Texas.

Michelle Malkin is tracking the reactions;
Stephen Sprueill analyzes the indictment and concludes, "Bottom line: Even people who aren't fans of Tom DeLay should show some intellectual honesty and admit that this is an out-of-control prosecutor and a phony charge."
You know what they say: You can indict a ham sandwich.
This is a ham sandwich without the ham.
