GOP gays oppose plan to ban same-sex marriages
Houston Chronicle ^ | 9/28/05 | Clay Robison

Gov. Rick Perry is actively promoting Proposition 2, the proposed constitutional amendment against same-sex marriages, and many other Republicans are supporting it. But at least one GOP group is campaigning against it. The Log Cabin Republicans of Texas, a gay and lesbian group that has fought the state's conservative GOP leaders before, denounced Proposition 2 as discriminatory.

"The proposed amendment to ban same-sex marriage would discriminate by singling out gays and lesbians and those in other committed relationships from the basic rights and responsibilities that married Texans enjoy," said Andy Hendricks, the group's president.

"Individual liberty and freedom from governmental interference are the basic beliefs that founded the GOP. We are proud to continue this tradition by standing up against the politics of hate and fear that only lead to unwarranted government intrusion and loss of freedom."

There are about 1,400 Log Cabin members in Texas, Hendricks said.

Texas already has a law against same-sex marriages, but locking the prohibition into the state constitution would make it more difficult to repeal. Supporters of the amendment say it is necessary to help the law survive courtroom challenges.

If approved by voters, the amendment also would ban the official recognition of "any legal status identical or similar to marriage," such as civil unions.

Perry has said the proposal is necessary "to protect marriage from fringe groups and liberal judges that would undermine marriage to fit their radical agendas."

GOP "Gays" really do need to start their own party because the strongest majority in the Republican Party oppose legalizing homosexuality (including but not limited to Supreme Courts overturning homosexual laws in the communities that choose to have them, promotion of homosexual lifestyle in public schools, active homosexuals serving openly in any branch of the armed forces, legalizing homosexual marriages, civil unions, etc.)

Most Republican activists do not wish in any way to oppose whatever a person does with another consenting adult but do oppose in any way legalizing the lifestyle.

It needs to be said each and every time those cockroaches are in the spotlight - they are not Republicans. They are Infiltrators.

Once again, as with other groups they purport to join, homosexuals campaign for and about homosexuality. Everything else is secondary...actually far from secondary.

The "Log Cabin Republicans" are nothing more than gay activists campaigning for...homosexuality. They're just using the GOP to do so.

A political party is not an exclusive club.

Wouldn't the newspaper save ink if they had entitled this article: "GOP gays support same-sex marriage"

Oh wait. That would mean they'd have to say GOP "supports" something. No negative connotation.

A political party is not an exclusive club.

Tell that to the Democraps.

How nice of a Big Tent'er to sign up and set me straight.

What's next? Who else should we open the door to? Abortion activists? GLSEN advocates? Race Baiters?

Is the concept of setting boundaries valid?

Please, enlighten me.

So Dick Cheney is a 'cockroach'? He opposes a gay marriage ban

Don't play silly mind games with me. You know exactly what I'm talking about. The LCR's are fakers.

And by the way, I understand Cheney's position, but it signifies nothing as far as I'm concerned. If push ever comes to shove on the issue of homosexuals, the Republicans will lose my vote forever.

Addenda:

Since you wanted to ridicule me down with invoking Cheney's name, I'll remind you of the cockroaches and the "milk carton" with Cheney's daughter on it.

Why, oh why, won't the LCR go after the unConstitutionality of the tax system instead?
Plead equal protection under the law.

Totally agree. If "log cabin" whatevers are unwiling to support a central core principle of the Republican Party...they can go where we all know they should go.

There are times, such as when the Enablers show up, that I wonder about that.

They can holler "gays are people too!" but so am I. Where do they end and I begin?

I have no problems with the ones in my neighborhood that I'll never know about, but if we allow the door to open to some, what of the others, such as the Decadents who have their "pride" parades? I wonder how many of the Enablers have ever heard of or happened across images of the "Folsom Street Fair"? Do they really and truly know of the dark side of those people? They're so twisted they wouldn't even leave "one of their own" alone (Mary Cheney).

Now, if there was a way to distinguish between the quiet ones and the Decadents, then I might be more willing to reconsider. I just don't see any way to open the door without ending up having to give recognition and credence to the Kirks and Madsens and the NAMBLA wing.

Speaking of what they did to Mary Cheney, is the intellectual level of the Decadents really what our Party needs?
