JON CARROLL: You Believe Anything, Democrats?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 9/27/5 | Jon Carroll

Posted on 09/27/2005 7:42:41 AM PDT by SmithL

I'm not sure when I first became fed up with the Democrats. Probably sometime during the Kerry campaign, although at that time I was being eaten up by the Fear and not noticing the flaws of the Kerry campaign so much. I feel foolish now. Many of us feel foolish now.

But here's the moment at which it all crystallized for me: It was at the beginning of what was then called "the great Social Security debate," which was a brief fad that hit America at about the same time as the 2005 Rose Parade.

Congressional Democrats solemnly announced that they were not going to come up with an alternative plan, because that would be politically unwise. It would be much better for the party to just snipe at the Republican plan. Yeah, I know, Social Security was not in nearly as bad shape as the GOP said it was, but could certainly have used -- still certainly could use -- a little help. Innovative thinking, maybe. Or, you know, the appearance of innovative thinking. Something other than "This plan is very terrible, and that's good for our side."

But it's typical. The party of Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson is back on its heels. It is reacting rather than acting. It is getting sucked into pointless debates. It is providing zero leadership. Some individuals within the party are trying -- hello, John Edwards -- but there's no vision.

What do Democrats believe? Well, you know what Republicans believe. Well, Democrats believe the other thing. Democrats stand for a vision to be named later.

You left out:

Saddam was just misunderstood.
Osama bin Laden is also a severely misunderstood man.
Christians will force everyone to convert.
Gay people, black people, and women are all oppressed minorities.
Gay people, black people, and women who criticize a Republican can speak no wrong.
The world is as flat as Hillary Clinton says it is.

"A Vision to be Named Later" - perfect!

Didn't some pig named Mandy who worked on Clinton's '92 campaign publicly state on TV the night of the election something like, "Who cares what we said during the campaign, nobody will remember."????

LOL. The Right Wing attack machine knows no shame.

Even when the liberals start to smell the coffee, it amazes me as to how much further they have left to wake up.

Socialism and Communism can work, we just need to be in charge of it...

The democrats are still busy selling snake oil about their memories of black churches being burned in their childhoods and how they started the Internet and how much silverware they sneak out of the White House after defecating on the oval office rug and stealing W's off the computer keyboards.

I'm sorry, but if all the above did not convince this author that democrats are barking mad then I have a problem believing he suddenly had an epiphany over SS.

Don't forget how every liberal "marched arm and arm with my black brothers in the South in the 60s." They all state this! Yet, has anyone ever done research to see if these people are really telling the truth?

How about the one where they claim every dead great man was gay?

Apparently, liberals believe only gay men can be great, so all great men must be gay.

I shudder to think about their analysis of the founding fathers, which I'm sure they're still digging through their papers looking for any shred to hang a rainbow flag on.

Carroll must've had a bad donut or something.

He almost sounds conservative here.

That's kinda funny. Can I quote you?

"The world is as flat as Hillary Clinton"
-- Coconutt2000

Looking at her ass (not a pleasant activity), I'd say you side with Magellan, right?

Their beliefs. You get your hands on a public office and you do anything and say anything to hold on to it. Sadly, that belief seems to be shared with a growing number of Republicans.

You can own that quote. Technically it is different than my original, which means it is all yours. :-)

The writer still fails to comprehend the evil that has become the demoncrat party. This is not the loyal opposition, but rather a party Hell bent on destroying this country while giving power to a completely corrupt world body called the UN. This is not a question of policy differences.

This writer still doesn't get it, he's just frustrated. If it took him until "the great Social Security debate" to figure out that the Democrats believed in nothing then he's still think-headed. Was he asleep during the Clinton years?

"Poverty was not a secret before Hurricane Katrina hit. The plight of inner-city African Americans was not a secret before the storm hit. If Democrats had wanted an issue, that was always there.

And the Democrats always, always, always demagogue this issue (can anyone say Shaprton and Jackson?). It's not about "poverty" or the "plight of inner-city African Americans" but about what you REALLY DO to fix those problems - not how you just demonize them and try and blame this "plight" (a favorite liberal word) on Republicans.

And, seriously, the Democrats really should find a candidate who's a uniter, not a divider. That job is definitely still open.

They so won't.
