NEW YORK -- It's an only in New York story.
A woman was given a ticket for sitting on a park bench because she doesn't have children.
The Rivington Playground on Manhattan's East Side has a small sign at the entrance that says adults are prohibited unless they are accompanied by a child.
Sandra Catena, 47, said she didn't see the sign when she sat down to wait for an arts festival to start.
Two police officers asked her if she was with a child. When she said no, they gave her a ticket that could bring a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.
The city parks department said the rule is designed to keep pedophiles out of city parks, but a parks spokesman told the Daily News that the department hoped police would use some common sense when enforcing the rule.
The spokesman told the newspaper that ticketing a woman in the park in the middle of the day is not the way you want to enforce the rule.
Bologna!
It's nothing more than a feeeeeel good law.
Most pedophiles are men.
As a mother of many small children, I appreciate this rule.
It's tiresome to get the kids dressed, snacks packed, diaper bag packed, stroller has a bad wheel and then you get to the park only to find the benches staked out by drunks and homeless and questionable men too eager to speak to your children.
The only thing worse is career feminists power walking in their nikes giving you that look that you know means they are thinking "dirty breeder" as they pass you.
I'd love to have the cops clear the park for my and other SAHM's exclusive use!
No adult male without a child in tow has any business hanging around a playground.
And further more no adult male with out any children should pay any taxes that go to pay for playgrounds.
Disneyland has that same sign on the "Haunted Mansion" ride, but I don't think any non-accompanied adults have been turned away.
If you'd lock up pedophiles for life and/or banished them, you wouldn't have to worry about them ever again, now would you?
Nothing incredibly selfish about that, honey!
I'll admit to it sounding selfish. But that's better than leaving the park to the exclusive use of junkies, whores and perverts, no?
Besides which, I happen to be doing Western Civilization a huge favor, breeding and rearing more than the national average of rational and right thinking children, when I could be out denigrating and demonizing males with the NAGS.
So who deserves the use of the park more, me and my viking kitty cubs or the flotsam and jetsam of marxist social engineering?
Whatever happened to the social deference and honor paid to the gentle art of homemaking and motherhood? Sigh! Even on FR we don't get no respect.
Wer ist denn ULOC?
Remember, in liberal la, la land it is not a baby until it is born.
I'm always sarcastic and assume nothing. There is always more to any story.
There are plenty of nitwit cops out there but this is not an example. This 'woman' was more likely a minority, homeless, on crack and a true purveyor of the liberal welfare entitlement mentality.
The cops had to do something.
But that is not reported in the MSM.
Just a guess.
Police and common sense does not fit in the same sentence...
Police see everyone as a criminal, except themselves of course.""
Not sure the cops are the culprits here.
I see the parks committees as being over the top with this kind of rule. I never had any kids. I pay for those parks, also. I would be making a large scene in court if they arrested me and tried to fine me $1000.
They may be trying to weed out the pedophiles, but this is a railroading, IMO.

SINCE WHEN??? I have been to Disneyland in Calif over 35 times, and it was almost always with adults only. I haven't been in over 10 years now, but if they actually have that sign up, I would demand my money back and never go there again. I always found the attactions at Disneyland to be very interesting in general, and the Haunted Mansion was a particular favorite.

Yet the journalist's angle is to make all parks safe for pedophiles.
The last time I went was about 10 years ago. I remember the sign in front of the "Haunted Mansion" attraction "no adults unless accompanied by a child under 10 -- grownups can get too scared" -- of course it's a spoof and not meant to be enforced.
:sigh:
