NEW YORK -- It's an only in New York story.
A woman was given a ticket for sitting on a park bench because she doesn't have children.
The Rivington Playground on Manhattan's East Side has a small sign at the entrance that says adults are prohibited unless they are accompanied by a child.
Sandra Catena, 47, said she didn't see the sign when she sat down to wait for an arts festival to start.
Two police officers asked her if she was with a child. When she said no, they gave her a ticket that could bring a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.
The city parks department said the rule is designed to keep pedophiles out of city parks, but a parks spokesman told the Daily News that the department hoped police would use some common sense when enforcing the rule.
The spokesman told the newspaper that ticketing a woman in the park in the middle of the day is not the way you want to enforce the rule.
O Father GOD,...Please send Your Only Begotten SON for us Soon, please....Amen.
Now if it had been a 47 year old guy........
The Horror! LOL
ROTFL. Either it's a rule to be enforced, or not. You do the crime, you do the time. </sarc>
"Oh, Aqualung."
Poof! I've been planning on this for years too.
"Now where are your kids, Sir?"
Police see everyone as a criminal, except themselves of course.
So it's another "men only" law...they just aren't allowed to say so? ;)
She must have put up a fight that got her a ticket. I can't imagine the cops just wouldn't have had her move along.
"Now where are your kids, Sir?"
Heinous crime if ever there was one!
Selective law enforcement is a staple of the liberal mindset.
Should read----Two cops with time on their hands and nothing else to do while waiting for the vendor to give them a free hot dog wrote her a ticket.
Maybe she should have gotten a note from her kids that she could be out on her own.
Sitting on a park bench
eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Drying in the cold sun
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Feeling like a dead duck
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
So, one would ask 'why' such a law exists. Consider, how else can one prevent a 'pervert' from sitting in the park and stalking a child while the parent is distracted? Perhaps the park itself is set aside as a refuge for children, a small section of land in a very large section of town; designed for children. How do you prevent thugs, bullies and muggers from preying on women and children?
These are two reasons why (perhaps) such a law and fine are imposed. Either the law is enforced, or it is not. If it is disregarded for women, then it can not be enforced for men; at which time the entire purpose of the law is removed.
Selective law enforcement is not an exclusively liberal prerogative.
Some GOP lawmaker in Georgia is asserting that he is immune from prosecution for violating the local DUI statute, because he is a legislator. And "professional courtesy" among LEO's isn't based on which side of the liberal/conservative border the offender happens to fall on.
A city park "rule" can result in a fine of $1000 and 90 days in jail??
I hope this is just "bad reporting" and that this is a "law" (which should NOT be interpreted to mean that I would support such a stupid law!!)
