XP Pro. Only one computer. No router. Getting online is not a problem, but the" work offline" crashes the IE page. Have to close out in task manager. Reloading the page works fine after.
The reason I mentioned DSL ( Bellsouth ) is because it's not always connected like cable or has auto connect as with dial up. If it did, I wouldn't have the problem.
XP set up the DSL settings. No ISP software is involved.
Have downloaded the software to get rid of the Adware. Will try it in safe mode if I ever get it working.
Just put his out to see if anyone here has ran into the exact same problems. Most Google search results tell me that others have the same problems, with no solution.
Will freepmail any future responses. Thank you.
Video card tip for all interested.
If you change cards and are installing one with a higher bit rate ( example ,you had a 64 bit one and install one with 128 or 256 ) make sure you go to the card's manufacturer's website and see if you may need to change some BIOS settings. They don't automatically reset when you install the new card. You may think you have a video driver problem when it was just one BIOS setting all along.

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt.
Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?"
"It depends," I replied. "What does it say on your shirt?"
He yelled back, "University of Oklahoma."
And they say blondes are dumb...
A man and his wife, now in their 60's, were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. On their special day a good fairy came to them and said that because they had been such a devoted couple she would grant each of them a very special wish.
The wife wished for a trip around the world with her husband.
Whoosh! Immediately she had airline/cruise tickets in her hands.
The man wished for a female companion 30 years younger...
Whoosh...immediately he turned ninety!!!
Gotta love that fairy!!!!

RAM has developed significantly over the years from older smaller slower modules to the ultra high performing gigabyte sizes on the market today. It was Intel who released the first DRAM module in 1970. (For those who might need to know, random access memory is so called because any byte of data may be accessed directly without the need to recall any other data. This type of memory is volatile, it requires a power supply to retain its stored data.)
Fast Page Mode RAM modules were the norm until 1995 advances in CPU's and motherboard speeds over the past several years has meant that FPM RAM cannot handle the demand placed on them.
Modern RAM modules run at ever increasing speeds. The more current RIMMs are connected in series and must have all memory banks filled in order to work (you must buy several sticks instead of just one). This means that data on the far end of one module can take a different length of time to travel than on another module because they are in series. The most current, DRAM, is preferred because it is connected in parallel, so data from one end of each module takes the same time to get to its destination. RIMMS are seldom used anymore. In the picture below, the RIMM module with the heat spreader (top) has two notches just like SDRAM (bottom), but they are placed closer together and more towards the center.
For a lot more information on RAM memory, and on DRAM, go here. There are many more websites with great info, too. Holler if you want some links.

ROFL!!!! Good stuff! Now I have one...
Just in time for football season...Football finally makes sense!
A guy took his blonde girl friend to her first football
game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench.
Aftr the game, he asked her how she liked the experience.
"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the cute
guys with all the big muscles; but I just couldn't
understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents.
Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, I saw them flip a coin and one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was:
'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!'
Hellooooooo? It's only 25 cents!"
