Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 7:39 p.m. EDT Bill Maher: Laura Bush Like 'Hitler's Dog'
HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher compared First Lady Laura Bush to "Hitler's dog" during his Friday night cablecast, after flashing a parody photo of Mrs. Bush with a black eye, as if she'd been a victim of domestic abuse.
After the photo display, Maher was challenged by guest panelist Christopher Hitchens, who told him: "It must be to [George Bush's] credit he got Laura Bush to marry him. She's an absolutely extraordinary woman."
To that, Maher replied: "Oh, come on. That's like Hitler's dog loved him. That is the silliest reason. ..."
"I think tomorrow you might be sorry you said that. Laura Bush is very gentle and talented," Hitchens warned.
With that Maher retreated a bit, insisting: "That's not what I'm saying, of course she is. But the idea that we somehow humanize any person because somebody else loves them is
ridiculous."
The outrageous exchange, reported exclusively by NewsMax contributor Steve Malzberg in his latest column, "Laura Bush and Hitler's Dog" - wasn't the worst to come from Maher's show lately.
The week before, "Real Time" guest George Carlin announced that he had a pet name for former first lady Barbara Bush.
"The Silver D - - - - e bag, I call her," Carlin announced as Maher's audience erupted in laughter.

You agree with this statement? It is the most stupid thing I ever heard. Maher thinks we like the President because of Laura. The man is so separated from reality its stunning. The only place he can seem to relate to is S.F. (and probably N.O.). And we all know the moral and realities of those sewers.

Whould someone point me to Maher's Crack dealer... you don't humanize someone unless you don't veiw people as human in the first place. If Maher feels that the Bushes or others are not human or humane just because of political views scares me... he is a mouth piece of the radical left and this is how dementated they have gotten. What next Mr. Maher? Are you really going to go around the bend and advocate violence against people just based on their differences from you. I am waiting for the day that I hear he has been sued for slander. I have a feeling that I will hear that his show has been cancelled again first though.

Here's a good question: If Mahr did not make fun of Bush, how many people would listen to him?

Try to imagine the MSM's outrage if a "B-list" conservative comedian, like Dennis Miller or Mort Sahl, had pulled out a photo of Hillary (or for that matter Bill) Clinton, with a fake black eye, and had said that the president's SPOUSE's love is no more significant than that of a (or Hitler's) dog.
Imagine THAT reaction. Oh, but because the MSM largely hates Bush, this sort of beyond-the-pale behavior is not "news."
Firing Maher was seemingly one of the few correct decisions Disney head Michael Eisner has made in the past 12 years.
I heard George Carlin use that disgusting reference before. I never, ever will listen to him again. I am far from prudish, but that was disgusting, and nowhere near funny.
Laura Bush has been a first lady we can all be proud of. I don't see where anyone would think this kind of crap is funny. These leftist need a good beating.
