The No. 2 al Qaeda leader in Iraq was killed Sunday night, U.S. officials say. Abu Azzam, reportedly the deputy to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, was shot during a house rain in Baghdad, according to Pentagon officials.

As the aide to Zarqawi, Azzam was reportedly in control of financing foreign fighters coming into Iraq, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports.

According to Pentagon officials coalition troops raided the house in response to a tip. When Azzam opened fire, these officials say, he was killed with troops' return fire.

on meet the press yesterday, tom friedman from the NYT was on. now I know, he's a liberal. but he made some sanguine comments about this iraq situation - especially in response to Maureen Dowd who was basically saying "we lost". Friedman says that with respect to the political aspect of this, there is one more "cycle" left, one more chance to turn this politically for the administration. I agree with him, and the left is going to spin any troop reductions as a result of a shift as "cut and run".

Who cares what Tom Friedman (whom I read) or Dowd has to say! - They don't know sh*t about war and having a real plan at systematically defeating your enemies - Which we are doing -

It is them (Dowd, Freeman, and the looney loser left) that is out in left field when it comes to the reality of the GWOT (including Iraq) - We are winning in amazing fashion and history will be very kind to GWB and America for our actions -

Present history has also been kind to us! (GWB, GOP) and not so kind to Dowd, DEM's and the MSM - We won in 2002 and 2004 at the polls (which so concern you) - We won!, They didn't!

Why you allow them to try and rewrite history is silly - Why you allow their useless / garbage polls to influence you is ridiculous -

The only "cycle" left is going to be another defeat for those on the left as time will continue to show them being on the wrong side of history! (and they will have to live with it).

Our actions in Iraq are correct - We are winning - The World is safer - (to hell with what a bunch of TV/writer commentators think - you should know where their job is at! - I do).

The premise both Dowd and Freeman start from is completely incorrect - And if your premise is incorrect the rest of what you say is meaningless.

As you have championed for some time the factual cause, that both US and Iraqi Intel have really mapped the country out, and do know just how to direct the G3's to take the sheetheads out in planned raids, we see continued sceptizim on the part of some. Thats ok. At least you understand what is going on.

We've been reading news similar to this for the longest time. My bet is we'll probably see the same news a few months later.

Zarqawi never runs out of "top aides" or "number 2's".

We seem to be good at getting the number 2's but not the number 1.

I think the answer is that the old, dead or captured aides are replaced by new, now dead or captured aides.

This must be around the 247th "top aide" that's been reported killed.

Well, you have to realize that as his top aides are killed, their subordinates move up to take their places. Working for Zarqawi guarantees quick promotion to the top spots.

And understand Tom Friedman and 95% of the MSM were continually telling us that Ronald Reagan's policies against the FORMER Soviet Union were doing nothing to weaken it and were only making it stronger - They were citing the same foolish / biased poll numbers regarding this issue as Reagan left office - History wasn't kind to them then nor will it be 5 years from now -

Friedman was talking this garbage just about right up until the day the USSR collapsed -

Friedman's take on dealing with Libya back in the mid-1980's turned out to be 180 degrees off the mark as well-

Friedman was in favor of going into iraq. I have never gotten a sense from him that he wants it to fail.

Friedman is political first and foremost - He is also a blow-with-the-wind type - A man that has a decent intellect but no leadership -

History has shown him to be a fool (for his lack of convictions) over and over -

I don't know, but it's too funny to me. Everytime. It's like a Laurel and Hardy gag and all I can do is laugh. Does that mean I'm sick, ya'll are sick, or we're all sick. LOL.
