Aides to Sen. John McCain have confirmed that the 2008 presidential hopeful will meet with anti-American war protester Cindy Sheehan, possibly later today.
"No time frame was released," reports the Arizona Republic. "It was not clear whether Sheehan would be alone or joining a contingent of Arizonans making the rounds on Capitol Hill."
Last week McCain explained his upcoming Sheehan summit by saying that other Republicans, including the president, had agreed to meet with the so-called "peace Mom."
"[Arizona Sen.] Jon Kyl is also meeting with them, as well, since most of them are Arizonans," he told CNN. "And, as you know, the president met with her once. I doubt if I'll meet with her twice"
But Sheehan's spokeswoman, Alicia Sexton, told the Republic that Sheehan had not yet decided whether to meet with Kyl.
McCain acknowledged that much of Sheehan's politics are toxic:
"I disagree with Miss Sheehan, strongly, on not only her remarks about Iraq, but also Israel, and getting troops out of New Orleans. And I strongly disagree and I will express that."
But he added: "I do honor the service and sacrifice of her son."
The McCain-Sheehan confab represents something of a flip-flop for the Arizona maverick.
Just last month he said Bush was right not to meet with Sheehan, telling the Tucson Citizen, "If I was president of the United States, I probably wouldn't."
The same day, McCain told the Arizona Star that Sheehan "is probably being used" by anti-war groups.
He's gonna visit her in jail.... :)

Better head to the DC jail!
McCain is as much of a media whore as she is.
Beat you ....:)
Keep him there too.
Then you'll be the only one at that meeting that does, Senator, as she certainly does not.
He'd probably wig out if they put him behind bars....
Why are leaders of this country bowing to this woman's out of control ranting? It really concerns me that a ranting woman can get our leaders to "listen" to her. What does this say about them?
I guess it's too much to expect from Senate Republicans to take a principled stand and avoid meeting with this toxic woman.
I'm shocked. Shocked!
John can bring her a cake with a saw. I expect McCain's announcement that he is becoming a Democrat any day now.
Can't speak for the others, but it's wayyyy too much to expect from Maverick John McCain.
These two could eat up a lot of clock talking about themselves.
Will he take a pack of Clinton's or a Lewinsky's?
Mclame just confirmed he will lose (again) the republican nomination for President in 2008.
meet with her..... I'm glad he's going to do this. At least he won't have to worry about the Republican nomination for president.....probably the Democratic nomination.
That's good. That's very good.
