PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President arrived back at the White House this afternoon after visiting Texas and Louisiana, where he received briefings on the federal disaster response. He also met with state and local officials, and with first responders.
Late today, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco gave a short speech in which she praised President Bush for his efforts to help her state. Saying, in essence, that she would have to work with this President if she had any hope of getting boat-loads of cash, Blanco asked Congress for HUGE amounts of money to essentially rebuild her state. She wants money not just to repair stuff, but to undertake brand new projects.
No, he walked. And just 24 hours after surgery. Amazing.
A Cowboys win...yippeee!!! The game wasn't on here in the Los Angeles area. That was a disappointing loss last week, so I'm glad they bounced back today.
It was live on C-span. Another FReeper posted a thread with captures here.

They're wonderful photos. I included them today because they symbolize one thing to me: comfort. Something GWB clearly needed this afternoon after he got home.
Thanks for that information on the state government in Louisiana. I didn't know all of those stats.
Got any tips for dark circles under the eyes?
I saw that - wasn't sure what was overhead, then they showed the helicopter. So cool! I'm sure it warmed his heart.
Does anyone remember any rallies like this during the height of the anti-war protests in the Vietname era?
It's hard for me to describe my current outlook on the MSM. I can't think of any clean words stronger than loathe, despise, disgusted, revolted, etc.
Just as well he looked and sounded tired. If he hadn't, he would have been accused of not worrying at all, looking well rested and unconcerned.
Never in my life have I witnessed anybody that was "darned if you do and darned if you don't" more than this man.
Amen.
I don't think we've ever seen him look so tired and drawn.
Thank you for reporting about that flyover!!!!! How wonderful - both for the support our troops patriots and for the President. I hope he knew for sure they were "his" supporters too!
That pic breaks my heart. He looks so tired and beaten down. We must increase those prayers. This man has had more on his plate than any president, EVER and yet he's lied about, trashed, etc., on a daily basis. Just think what could be accomplished if everyone joined together, rather than trying to do him in. I hope every single one of them pays a HEAVY price for what they've done and continue doing to this wonderful man.
Thank you for the Sunday Dose. How tired our President must be tonight. With a big week ahead - Roberts vote, probably nomination of 2nd Justice on the Supreme court this week - and con continued monitoring of hurricane recovery - I hope he has some sort of rest tonight. I hope when he prays God lifts from his shoulders the heavy burden he has had to carry this week especially - all weeks, though.
Clinton would be lapping it up like a dog.
Stewart Cink was indeed on this year's team. That's Timeout's nephew? Cool! Great tournament, and I'm so happy for Jack Nicklaus.
If they did, the media would have him in the grave before he got home.
That is wonderful about the Americans winning the President's Cup Golf Tournament!!!!! What a joy that he will have that good news tonight.
