"More than half of the Hurricane Katrina evacuees airlifted into South Carolina have criminal backgrounds, with convictions ranging from petty theft to rape," authorities said."What we don't know about are(evacuees)who have come into the state on their own or who had some church or civic group bring them in" said SLED Chief Robert Stewart.

Nagin might be happy until he realizes that 3/4ths of his "base" is gone...
Thank you, New Orleans. :(
Perhaps a new environment will bring about a change in behavior...
/sarcasm
And to think, those of us who advised not taking evacuees into your homes were looked down upon here.
the "Right Rev Guv" Huckabee (R?), who wants to run for president but hasn't said for which party, has knowingly invited these same criminal people (especially rapists) and refused to have them ID'd - the same with his personal invitation to illegal aliens and his denouncements of our immigration laws and DHS officers who were trying to uphold the immingration laws.
LOL Perfect!
I do not know if this was covered or not but I know for a fact that this Mayor's evacuation plan had no provision to evacuate the jail. Check it out
Got this in an email. Lessons learned from Katrina:
1) The hurricane only hit black people's property.
2) New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.
3) Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.
4) New Orleans has no white people.
5) The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.
6) When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV.
7) The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans.
8) New Orleans is welfare, looter, and gang free, and now they are in your city.
9) White folks don't make good news stories.
10) Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a $2000 debit card yet.
11) Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.
12) Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid.
13) The only way it could have been worse was to be white.
The NOLA mayor had no plans period.
Many prisoners were let free by their jailers to keep them from drowning - they weren't "freed" - they were saved from drowning.
This happened in Houston in 1983 in a couple of areas where the water rose to near roof top level during hurricane Alicia - they had to let the prisoner loose or they would have died. MOST of those prisoners returned on their own.
That's why they were never evacuated in the first place.
Wrong. Nagin won 80% of the white vote in his election. Nagin's appeal was to whites and affluent and reform-minded blacks. The ghetto vote went to his opponent.
Nagin is a former Republican who donated money to George W. Bush's 2000 presidential election campaign. He switched parties in order to run for mayor.

The Milwaukee NAACP was threatening to sue because all the evacuees were being screened for criminal record, outstanding warrants and sex offender status before they were placed in community shelters.
LMAO......Sad ain't it !
Well, now you've gone and done it! I was aware of all that myself, but I didn't feel like going into it. Anyhow, since you tangentially bring it up, it's worth noting that the mayors of New Orleans for some while now are nothing but puppets for the corrupt krewes that actually run the city. That's why Nagin comes across like a sock puppet - because that's exactly what he is.
Nagin is NOLA's version of Michael Bloomberg. He switched parties as a matter of political convenience. Like Bloomberg, he has all the spine of a chocolate eclair.
