Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.
MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.
An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.
On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.
Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

I think the Runaway Bride had Grand Baroque...that is about the main thing I remember was the picture of the Grand Baroque fork that was posted..
Didn't you post it??
Now I have to go to bed.
I love a good flatware thread! Nite all.
What are you all discussing; I've been TV deprived most of the afternoon.
Flatwear patterns, dishes and antiques....
Slumber party, huh???
Are you saying you are bored???
I will tell you what bored me----the same pictures over and over on Fox News today...jeez...
That is why this thread has been so fun tonight--but, you might not be QUITE as enthralled by flatware as you are a hurricane...lol
Goodnight....maybe Rita will circle around and become a hurricane again...
someone went to the registry and found her pattern. That started alot of the hilarity on the thread. Such a cheesy girl, such a fabulous pattern.
Great pic.
If there will be a Rita loop, when would the first turn most likely take place, do you know? Would it be soon if it's going to happen? And is there a point where a loop would be pretty much impossible given the current atmosphere? (Sorry, I don't know anything about weather stats, maybe these are stupid questions.)
No, you can keep the hurricane lamps out since hurricanes seem to be coming so often. And it implies that you have been very busy doing volunteer work at the shelter that you haven't had time to put away the lamps.
Goodnight...I truly enjoyed this thread a lot tonight...even though I know nothing about silver flatware.
Thanks..
One that is all wine racks, or just wine racks on the bottom, with a frig up above? I got one for the desert which is all wine racks, but I think the latter would be more functional. The problem in the desert, is that the heat will spoil red wine, if it is not in a cooler.
Think I'll bond with my pillow too...Night all!
For example, I loved Raquel in "Fantastic Voyage"...
What? No mention of her outstanding performance in "Mother, Jugs, and Speed"?
Alas in OC, I don't have a kitchen island, nor room for one, without losing the eating area.
Yea! Canton! The best! We'll go in November or December, it's too hot for us in September/October. Hope you find some treasures. I just love Canton, try to go at least twice a year.
And thanks to you NN for these wonderful threads. What a wonderful source of "community" they have provided--especially for those who have been in harm's way. Just hope it will be a LONG times before you are "called" to duty again!
Nagin had a presser this afternoon (like just about every politician that ever had anything to do with Texas or LA..lol)...
Anyway...he was talking about the water overflowing the levees and that they were going to try to stop it up..and just kind of rattling...
and then he says something like..."And from now on, I don't want to hear that some official has said this or that about coming back to NO..and when repairs will be done..you might not get correct information out..."
I can't really remember...but Soul Seeker and I have kinda been trying to figure out if he was mad that a govt official gave out correct info and Nagin is mad that he didn't get to. (it was a radio interview)..
Or, if Nagin was saying that the information that the official gave was incorrect...
I have found myself getting confused by Nagin quite a bit...and today was no exception.
I don't know. There could be something to that. She just looks so clueless. I seem to remember that she consulted lawyers about letting Bush have control. If you were an ambitious attorney in LA, who would you side with? Blanco or the Landrieu clan?
Naw, she's just an idiot
