It would seem that Grambling State University near Ruston, Louisiana is in the business of having its students exposed to various and sundry socialist agendas.
This year alone, both Cornel West and Angela Davis have spoken at this school, Davis just recently.
West has been listed as a professor of Religion and African American studies at Princeton University. According to one report, his intellectual contributions come from such varied sources as the "African American Baptist Church, Marxism, pragmatism, and transcendentalism." What a mix! His dissertation was finished in 1980 and later published under the title "The Ethical Dimensions of Marxist Thought." Knowing a little about Marxism, I would be willing to guess that its "ethical dimensions" are somewhat narrow.
West considers himself to be a "non-Marxist socialist" and serves as the honorary chairman of the Democratic Socialists of America. He has worked with some rather "interesting" personalities over the years. In 2004 he was an advisor to "Rev." Al Sharpton in his presidential bid. Four years earlier he had served as an advisor to candidate Bill Bradley. Later he endorsed Ralph Nader. In all of this, Professor West has never even come within spitting distance of anything that might be considered as the political center. Mainstream he ain't! If someone on the political Right were out there doing what Professor West does on the political Left he would be castigated without let-up. But because he is on the Left politically, West gets a pass. And he gets to speak to impressionable young audiences on college campuses.
While everyone may not have heard of Professor West, most people have heard of Angela Davis. As an ex-Black Panther Party member and as a vice-presidential candidate for the Communist Party, Davis has had a high profile on and off over the years. She is listed among "somewhat controversial speakers" at Grambling. "Controversial" is the media term for socialists and communists, as opposed to the media term "Right-wing extremist" which is used to describe anyone to the right of Fidel Castro. Although Davis may no longer be enrolled in the Communist Party, she still espouses the Party line. That hasn't changed.
Davis was shaped in her youth to be the adult Leftist radical she became. She attended high school at a private high school, the Elizabeth Irwin High School, in Greenwich Village in New York City. This school was quite aptly labeled "The Little Red School House" and was a favorite of the Left-wing community. While at this "institution of learning" Angela was exposed to the study of commuhism and socialism and was recruited into the Communist youth group. It almost sounds like a sneak preview of where some of our government schools are headed. The rest, as they say, is history. As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.
In college she studied under Leftist activist Herbert Marcuse. At this point in her history, Davis is pushing something she calls "prison abolition." It seems that she thinks prisons need to be done away with, and in their place, issues such as class, race, and gender need to be "addressed." She feels all these have resulted in the large number of blacks and Hispanics that are in today's prisons. The thought that at least some of these people might have committed crimes that are responsible for their being in prison doesn't seem to enter into her thinking. Because, you see, whatever crimes they have committed are someone else's fault because they are all the victims of racism or poverty or whatever.
No personal responsibility here--it's all the fault of society. What a slap in the face this is to the millions of black people that go out day in and day out and labor to earn an honest living. She is telling black people they can't make it because they are all victims. Where have you heard that before? And now students at Grambling State University are being treated to their fair share of the propaganda. If there are any cow pastures near Grambling, they are where this stuff belongs.
While Davis no longer belongs to the Communist Party, she takes pains to point to Castro's Cuba as a great country that really knows how to address social and economic problems. Ah, yes, Castro has done so much for humanity, hasn't he? One can just picture his men machine gunning all those that helped him with the revolution that didn't have sense enough to know that he was a Marxist-Leninist "and would be until the day he died." The Reds took the exact same approach with Mao in China. One of the bloodiest butchers in the world became an "Agrarian reformer" for both Communists and news media (sometimes its hard to tell one from the other). And Angela Davis spouts the same Party line for Castro to students that should have been taught better but apparently were not.
Oh, and something else that makes her totally acceptable to the media as well as the Reds, she is reported to have admitted to being a lesbian back in 1997.
Awhile back, columnist William Lind referred to many of America's colleges and universities as "little ivy-covered North Koreas." Considering the type of speakers Grambling State University seems to import to expose their students to, you do begin to wonder if they might fit into that catagory.
Huh?
How about an Engels socialist?
Seems a West endorsement is the kiss of death.
That's just utterly brilliant. How come all the REALLY smart people are on our side?
It's best for college students to attend technical colleges if possible.
"West considers himself to be a "non-Marxist socialist"
Funny thing about "non-Marxist socialists" and "non-Maoist communists" - most of them really are Marist socialists and/or Maoist communists - they just don't know it or won't admit it.
But I don't want to condemn a college on the basis of two speakers. I know at Georgia Tech pretty much any professor or club could invite whatever speaker they wanted with no approval from the administration and we didn't have any kind of prohibited list based on somebody's political affiliation or absurdity of opinions. That led to some wild speakers at what was a pretty conservative college.
LOL! I am not worried and here's why.
The spawn of 60s crowd pushes so hard they often make their own views appear ridiculous. The other point is that if they have any idea that they can still say that we are to question authority, well, a new reality will sink in when they young ones question their authority.

How cute. He has Angela's "do" and Lenin's goatee. No to mention, Kim Jong Il's specs.
I bet he gets lots of dates, not.
