Rummy Chick, the same thing goes for you. Yes, I have seen those stories about the Louis Vitton handbag, and the ungrateful people. Why do you think that we didn't see anything about all the grateful people? After the first couple of days, even Fox quit covering them and concentrated on the whiners.
It is my personal opinion that the majority of the press and the democrats are interested in fomenting division and they are doing this by stirring up racial troubles. They portray the New Orleans people as either looters or ingrates, which makes them unsympathetic to a good portion of the rest of the country. Then Jesse Jackson and his group show up and start aggravating the situation and make the black people think they are going to be treated poorly.
We got 4000 people in Indiana and quite a few of them were afraid. They were afraid that they were going to be sent to some hell-hole, afraid they would not be allowed to go where they wanted, afraid they would never see their friends and relatives again. Now why should they be afraid?
The damn press has created this division in the country, and the democrats are very adept at using it.
I don't begrudge one thing to the people of Louisiana, but I sure do NOT want to see Blanco, Nagin, or Landrieu anywhere near the reconstruction money. I want them all arrested.
And people wouldn't be so mad if Landrieu didn't show up on Thursday with Vitter and submit a ridiculous bill for aid to Congress, COMPLETELY ignoring Mississippi and Alabama, as well as what was a potential disaster in Texas. Then Blanco comes on TV and starts whining again.
I really feel for the normal folks in Louisiana, but your politicians are the worst I have ever seen. And they are making everyone angry, including me!
I love your insight. It's so right on. Thanks.
"The damn press has created this division in the country, and the democrats are very adept at using it."
Yup and they seem to delight in doing it. They make me sick. Always some kind of spin to their coverage.
I didn't say there no grateful people. I object to this idea that people who lost everything are so bereft that people should give them carte blanche to behave in whatever way they want. I object that people shouldn't be allowed to JUDGE the way it was handled or compare it to the way Texas Handled it or the way MISS. or AL. handled their own disasters.
The fact is that NO does have a high degree of corruption and a high degree of criminality from the POOR as well as the rich.
Cajungirl should at least be willing to admit that is true.
And for pete's sake, Nagin should be judged from telling people to come back and criticizing the Federal goverment when the Federal Government tried to tell him it might not be a good idea with a major hurricane on the horizon.
The fact that someone has gone through a disaster does not give them carte blanche to demand acceptance of their behavior no matter their behavior.
Not only what you said, but I also think they were afraid because they know how the government is. It is easy to get lost in the gov't bureaucracy. Poor folk know this very well. And they know how gov't always screws them - always.
That is why I have hope for what President Bush is proposing - ie a different way to help the poor other than through direct gov't "services".
You are right MM.
Rummy, we have always been friends. We went thru the Runaway Bride together I do believe.
I won't criticize you if you will allow that most of us are nice down here.
We can all agree our Govt is lousy.
