Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

People who've followed him for years loathe his attitude and willingness to say outrageous (mostly wrong) stuff, just so he can be the go-to weather guy for people like Bill O'Reilly (ie. blowhards).

This one has been a bit problematic with track, but it's been working out as planned otherwise. It looks like some dry air did get to her, but I'm not sure how much... water vapor doesn't really show much dry air in the system.

One of our stations in town ran out of gas this morning. Gas war's over. Price is up to Waco standard now. LOL

BUT, every container fit for gasoline got it for $2.48 yesterday. :-)

After a period when the eye almost disappeared, it is coming back. Still, due to the "lag effect," the winds may weaken even as the storm looks stronger......I also have a hard time seeing this hitting at 10 a.m. tomorrow......surely it will be much sooner, perhaps this evening.

Pic's a wee bit big

Getting Eaker to post a pic under a quarter megabyte is a major accomplishment.

"Would you believe... "gale force winds"?"

Can't believe you can get away with "Gale force winds" these days.
Probably shouldn't give the Fems any ideas.

Yeah, you have to sift out who to listen to, and nwctwx is one of those I listen to also.

Yup, and Whtrman13 (I think is the handle) is pretty darn knowledgeable as well. Interplanet Janet (janet688janet or something like that), jeffers, and a few others are well versed. And you KNOW you can trust NautiNurse.

Work? You mean everyone in Colorado's not taking off to watch the hurricane coming in? LOL

Well, we were watching but it's beginning to look like we dodged this bullet and Rita's not going to make landfall here.

"Convection has been re-organizing and wrapping around the system recently. This is something that usually happens before strengthening. Recon indicates that she has leveled off at least. Something to watch in the next few hours... definately not the time to give up on the storm. If it did decide to strengthen now, it might be a bad time... we could see it do so through landfall. I still think it will come in at 130mph+ at this point."

Back to reality, thank for all your posts. I see the red wrapping around the eye again and growing in width in the IR loop, as the eye becomes more defind again. :(

Ok, since this storm is looking like its petering out for my area, Iam thinking I do not have to leave for work at 2 or 3pm. I have to be there at Midnight. Since 45 is open mabe I can just wait for a few more hours?

Any time you see an Eaker with a gun in their hands you can count on 'em having a big ol' grin on their face.

Agreed. I think this thing is not weakening as indicated by NHC intensities. Pressure's been steady, and flight level winds are up a notch from this morning.
